It is the practice. The first of the two, retentive memory and eloquence, is the retentive memory of non-forgetting: possessing equal mindfulness and wisdom, one holds words and meanings without forgetting. The cause for obtaining that retentive memory is: obtaining forbearance, called the retentive memory of the door. By the letters such as A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, literal Chinese meaning: non-), one expresses meaning in conventional terms, and in ultimate terms, by focusing on the equality of the two truths, which are inexpressible, one obtains forbearance for the meaning of non-arising, and from that, one will obtain the retentive memory of non-forgetting. The nature of retentive memory is the retentive memory of words and the retentive memory of meaning. All the words of the scriptures, such as the Sutras, are never forgotten, not even the slightest sound, and the meaning to be explained is never forgotten without error. The result or function of obtaining retentive memory is the arising of the retentive memory of mantras. If one who has obtained retentive memory blesses a mantra, then that mantra will accomplish the desired action as it was blessed. Those retentive memories come from three sources: the ripening of merit, learning and habituation, and samadhi, which are called small, medium, and large respectively. Also, the retentive memory of the continuum of an ordinary being is small, the medium is for those on the seven impure grounds, and the retentive memory of the continuum of those on the pure grounds is large. There are many categories of retentive memory, such as the eight mentioned in the Sutra Requested by Retentive Memory King. What are the eight? The retentive memory of pure sound is that by realizing that all phenomena are unborn and unutterable, with just one letter A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, literal Chinese meaning: non-), one teaches the tenets of the Dharma and various letters continuously for many eons, without abandoning the sound of A, and the teaching of the Dharma is uninterrupted. By abiding in this retentive memory, one obtains inconceivable qualities of complete purification of the three doors, the six perfections, and so on. The retentive memory of the inexhaustible treasure chest is that by explaining one meaning, such as the impermanence of form, one can teach the Dharma inexhaustibly even at the end of the kalpa. The retentive memory of endless swirling is that by knowing that the extreme is permanence and annihilation, and the swirling is dependent origination, one abandons the extreme. Similarly, the extreme of taking and discarding, and the swirling of not taking and not discarding, etc., by following the extreme and the swirling, one obtains the retentive memory of being free from all extremes and not clinging to the middle, and thus the teaching of the Dharma will not be exhausted. Like the ocean

The mudra dharani is: Just as all things that rely on the earth are contained within the great ocean. Similarly, all the Dharma taught by the Buddhas of the ten directions is also sealed with the mudra of the syllables A (藏文:ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:阿), ra (藏文:ར,梵文天城体:र,梵文罗马拟音:ra,汉语字面意思:惹), pa (藏文:པ,梵文天城体:प,梵文罗马拟音:pa,汉语字面意思:巴), tsa (藏文:ཙ,梵文天城体:च,梵文罗马拟音:ca,汉语字面意思:匝), na (藏文:ན,梵文天城体:न,梵文罗马拟音:na,汉语字面意思:纳), etc. The Bodhisattva who has obtained the dharani of the gate sealed with mudras, their three doors of body, speech, and mind are like the ocean, and they can teach all the Dharma taught by the Buddhas to sentient beings without any omission. The lotus arrangement dharani is: The Bodhisattva who has obtained this dharani, while sitting in the midst of their retinue on the various lotuses that have arisen, even without speaking, a rain of lotuses will fall. And from the pores of their skin, various lotuses will emanate light, thus teaching the profound and vast Dharma in the fields of the ten directions. The dharani of entering into equanimity without attachment is: When that Bodhisattva teaches one Dharma gate, up to teaching as many Dharma gates as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, they are without attachment. They teach as many Dharma gates as there are dust particles in all the Buddha fields with one teaching, and although they teach with meaning and definitive terms, they have no attachment to it, and their teaching is continuous and without interruption. The dharani of distinctly knowing each individual thing or the dharani of being without doubt is: The teaching of the four distinct knowledges is inexhaustible. If as many sentient beings as there are in the four directions ask about the four knowledges separately, that Bodhisattva will, in their respective languages, at the same time, enable all of them to know all meanings. The dharani of the Buddha's blessing is: When that Bodhisattva is sitting on a great Dharma seat in the midst of their retinue, and the golden body of the Buddha, adorned with marks and signs, places their right hand on the crown of their head, that Bodhisattva will immediately become endowed with a body, speech, mind, and memory adorned with the ornaments of the Buddha. Thus, they will teach the Dharma according to the thoughts of their retinue. Even if they wish to teach the Dharma for a day or for hundreds of thousands of years, because they are held by the blessing of the Buddha, their teaching of the Dharma will never be exhausted, their body and mind will not tire, and they will teach the Dharma in accordance with the thoughts of sentient beings. As such, many types of dharanis are known from the sutras. Fearless eloquence is when all the places of words and meanings are each
