The wheel of earth thought, the wheel of renunciation and meditation, and the wheel of action and karma. The latter encompasses the manifold virtuous activities for the benefit of sentient beings as taught here. The ten perceptions that are constantly cultivated by the Hearers are: impermanence, suffering, selflessness, impurity, death, appearance, detachment, as well as unsuitability of food, displeasure with all appearances in the world, and the perception of obstructing all signs. The word "perception" should be added to the end of each of the preceding ones, thus making ten. Furthermore, the sutras speak of various perceptions, such as: I have not been liberated from samsara, have not been freed from the afflictions, have fallen into the abyss of all suffering and fear, have not transcended the state of being owned by karma, will die without having attained the qualities of the noble path, will be born again in existence, and the difficulty of obtaining happiness such as leisure and endowment. Through these perceptions, householders and others arouse weariness and eliminate arrogance, thereby entering the path. I have followed the Buddha, turned my back on the affairs of householders and the objects of desire, and am single-mindedly pursuing the qualities of the path and its fruit. Have I abandoned evil deeds? Have I entered virtuous deeds? Have I obtained any fruit? The various perceptions that are spoken of are to encourage renunciants to strive in the places of entering and withdrawing. Knowing the qualities of the Buddha and rejoicing, knowing the excellence of the Mahayana path and generating reverence, knowing the qualities of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and wanting to attain them, regarding all sentient beings as mothers and cultivating the mind of compassion, etc., are the means of entering the Mahayana path. It should be known that the sutras speak of various terms for these perceptions in both expanded and condensed forms. There are also three samadhis: the samadhi of emptiness, the door to liberation, is the aspect of emptiness and selflessness among the sixteen aspects of the four truths. Similarly, the aspects of impermanence and suffering, and the four aspects of the origin of suffering, the aspects of these six are the samadhi of no aspiration. The eight aspects of cessation and path are the samadhi of no sign. There are also four samadhis spoken of, namely:

The samadhi for abandoning desire is the contemplation of impurity. The samadhi of dwelling in happiness in the present life is the joy born from the samadhi of solitude, which makes the body soft and pervasive. The samadhi of attaining the vision of wisdom is the practice of perceiving the night as if it were daytime. The samadhi of attaining wisdom is the practice of the fourth dhyana samadhi. The four qualities of a renunciate are: being reviled with harsh words in reality but not reviling in return, being beaten but not striking back, being slandered behind one's back but not slandering in return, and being angered but not becoming angry in return. These are the four qualities arising from patience. When cultivating the path of purifying the mind's conduct, if desire is strong, contemplate the repulsive; if hatred is strong, contemplate loving-kindness; if delusion is strong, contemplate the meaning of dependent origination; if pride is strong, contemplate the division of elements; if conceptual thought is strong, contemplate mindfulness of breathing in and out. These are the antidotes that are particularly effective against these afflictions. So, how does one cultivate the contemplation of impurity? There are three types of contemplation: contemplation of impure objects, contemplation of unattractiveness, and contemplation of the skeleton. First, one should know and become accustomed to the impure nature of the body, which is the object of attachment, that is, the nature of the thirty-six impurities. The thirty-six impurities present in the body are: hair, body hair, teeth, nails, excrement, urine, dust, nasal mucus, tears, eye mucus10, dirt, skin, flesh, blood, bones, fat, shin, veins, tendons, lungs10, heart, liver, spleen, kidneys, stomach, large intestine, small intestine, raw organs, bladder, oil10, serum, pus, phlegm, bile, brain, and marrow. Thus, there are thirty-six. In this context, dirt refers to eye mucus, earwax, and dental plaque, etc. The rest is easy to understand. Furthermore, in order to pacify attachment to color, shape, touch, and reverence, one should look at a motionless corpse abandoned in a charnel ground and contemplate that all bodies are like it. Therefore, there are nine aspects of unattractiveness: the bloated state, the state of being devoured by worms, the state of being reddish, the state of being bluish, the state of being
