of rivers and unions. The remainder of those are twenty-nine rivers or unions of desire, there are twenty-eight rivers of existence. In order to carry beings and unite them in non-places, therefore here the views are separated. Also, these constantly carry to the ocean of existence, therefore they are rivers, and in order to unite consciousness in the mud of samsara, therefore they are called unions. Again, dividing into four attachments, the unmixed is only ignorance, since the solitary companionless one is not the near-attachment of the birth of desire and existence, therefore they are mixed together. With views and discipline and asceticism, it is the inverted view, and the evil asceticism, therefore deceiving householders and renunciants, therefore separated, thirty-four near-attachments of desire, thirty-eight near-attachments of existence, thirty near-attachments of the views of the three realms, six near-attachments of discipline and asceticism. Those are the cause of taking birth in existence, therefore they are called near-attachments, depending on the trainees' intentions, such distinctions are made according to need. If one wants to distinguish as above based on the Abhidharma-kośa school, then one hundred and twenty-eight to be abandoned by seeing and meditation plus ten pervasive calculations of desire, one hundred and thirty-eight appear, from which, fifteen outflows of ignorance, fifty-one outflows of desire, seventy-two outflows of existence, fifteen river-unions of ignorance, sixty-six river-unions of views, twenty-nine river-unions of desire, twenty-eight river-unions of existence, thirty-four near-attachments of desire, thirty-eight near-attachments of existence, fifty-four near-attachments of views, the near-attachments of discipline and asceticism become twelve. Among them, what is abandoned by seeing is the afflictions that are conceptually imputed, that is, the views of the afflicted ones who make other inverted distinctions about the true meaning, attachment and, doubt and, the place of view and, whatever affliction and near-affliction is wrongly entered into that view, and the actions of body and speech caused by that view and, the aggregates, elements, and sources of bad destinies are to be abandoned by seeing. What is abandoned by the path of meditation is the afflictions of the mind-stream up to the attainment of the path of seeing.

Those innate ones that should not be abandoned even when seen. What should not be abandoned is the uncontaminated. How to abandon? By the wisdom that fully knows the basis of the arising of those afflictions, the nature of the afflictions themselves, and their faults as they are, thereby not accepting the arising of those afflictions. When one attains the antidote path, one destroys from the root the seed of the afflictions' rebirth—the bad rebirth—so that they will not arise again in the future, this is called abandonment. That is, by focusing on the aspect of selflessness when summarizing all phenomena. Other aspects such as impermanence also ultimately merge into it, and by that focus, like darkness, the seeds of afflictions are destroyed. Generally, there are four types of antidotes: The antidote of refutation is seeing faults in contaminated things. The antidote of abandonment is the uninterrupted yoga and all uninterrupted paths. The antidote of the basis or support is the path of liberation. The antidote of prolongation is the path above it. This is according to the Compendium, but there is another explanation in the Treasury of Knowledge. There are four types of prolongation: prolongation due to dissimilar characteristics, even though they exist in one group, they do not mix and become distant due to dissimilar characteristics, like the four elements. Becoming an inconsistent aspect, like morality and immorality. Being distant due to completely separate places, like the eastern and western oceans. Being distant due to time, like the past and the future. The fruits of abandoning what is to be abandoned are nine complete knowledges: One complete knowledge of the exhaustion of what is to be abandoned in the suffering and origin of the desire realm. Two complete knowledges of the exhaustion of what is to be abandoned in the path of cessation, making three in total. Similarly, three from the two upper realms, making six, are the fruits of the uninterrupted path of the path of seeing. The complete knowledge of abandoning the final similar part. The complete knowledge of the exhaustion of the contaminations of the form realm. The three complete knowledges of the exhaustion of all contaminations are the fruits of abandoning what is to be abandoned in the path of meditation. The afflictions and actions mentioned above are the causes, origins, proliferations, and conditions of being born in samsara, and this is called the truth of the origin. The truth of cessation is the power of the causal path, in which suchness, the afflictions are made never to arise again, the cycle of
