Sleep-related afflictions arise simultaneously. Similarly, anger is associated with the three of attachment, pride, and view; conceit is associated with the two of anger and doubt; and view is similar to that. Doubt is not associated with the three of attachment, pride, and view; the remaining parts of those mentioned above and they are mutually associated. The near afflictions such as anger are not mutually associated. Ignorance is divided into mixed ignorance, which is associated with all afflictions, and unmixed ignorance, which is merely the delusion of not knowing the truths. Shamelessness and recklessness are associated with all non-virtues. The five of dullness, agitation, disbelief, immodesty, and laziness can be associated with all afflictions. Furthermore, the way in which they are associated with any feeling is: desire is associated with the three of pleasure, joy, and equanimity from the desire realm up to the second dhyana. The third dhyana is associated with pleasure, and above that with equanimity. Anger is associated with the three of suffering, displeasure, and equanimity. Conceit is associated with the three of pleasure, joy, and equanimity in the desire realm, and also with those three in the first and second dhyanas; in the third dhyana with pleasure and equanimity; and in the fourth dhyana and above only with equanimity. The two of destructive view and identity view, that is, the four views, should be known to be similar to conceit. Wrong view is associated with the three of joy, displeasure, and equanimity in the desire realm, and with whatever feeling exists in the form and formless realms. Doubt is associated with displeasure and equanimity in the desire realm, and with whatever feeling exists in the two upper realms. Ignorance is associated with all afflictions, so it is associated with whatever feeling exists in the three realms. Unmixed ignorance is associated with displeasure and equanimity in the desire realm, and above that with whatever feeling exists in its own realm. Why can all afflictions be associated with the feeling of equanimity? Because when those afflictions arise, they subside by relying on being in a state of ordinary equanimity. Regret, jealousy, anger, malice, resentment, and indignation are all associated with the feeling of displeasure. Stinginess is associated with the feeling of joy. Cunning, deceit, and sleep are all associated with both the feelings of joy and displeasure. Arrogance

It is endowed with happiness, and the feeling of equanimity is compatible with all of that. The four, shamelessness, lack of embarrassment, lethargy, and agitation, are compatible with the five feelings. Furthermore, with which consciousness does it transform? The three, attachment, hatred, and ignorance, in the desire realm can be compatible with the six aggregates of consciousness. The two, attachment and ignorance, in the form realm can be compatible with the four consciousnesses other than nose and tongue. In the formless realm, it is only the mind consciousness. The three, pride, view, and doubt, in all grounds are only compatible with the mind consciousness. Furthermore, the three, desire, anger, and pride, in desire, arise by focusing on one aspect of things, and are not pervasive to everything. The pride and attachment of the higher realms are also similar to this. The rest can also be applied to all things. Furthermore, if divided into the six doors of outflows, the root afflictions and near afflictions are the nature of outflows. The mind and mental factors that arise together with it are related to outflows. Its main cause, eyes, etc., are the basis of correspondence with that outflow. The contaminated virtues of the three realms are bound by outflows. What follows the outflow is its bad destination. What is in accordance with the outflow is not an antidote to the outflow, but is in harmony with the outflow, or because afflictions arise by focusing on forms, etc., therefore it is the object of the outflow, and the dharma related to those six is the contaminated dharma. Among the specific categories of those afflictions, the nine bonds are: the bond of attachment refers to the desire of the three realms, because of which one does not become disgusted with the three realms, does not practice virtue, and performs non-virtue, therefore it connects with suffering in the future. Similarly, anger and, pride and, the bond of ignorance, and the three views, view of annihilation, corrupted view, are called view bonds, the two, holding to supremacy, are called the bond of holding to supremacy, and doubt and, jealousy and, the bond of stinginess, each of which also causes suffering in the future by doing non-virtuous deeds as a cause, therefore it is called a bond. Those obscure the path to liberation, attachment obscures birth in samsara, anger obscures the mind abiding in equanimity, and the remaining seven jointly obscure the realization of suchness.
