It should be understood. Severing roots of virtue and, reconnecting again, being free from desire from realms and lands and, falling away from that, dying and taking birth, these are done solely by the mind's consciousness. Dying and taking birth are done while abiding in the feeling of equanimity. It is impossible to die while that very mind consciousness is abiding in one-pointedness, and while abiding in a state of mindlessness; one rises from that and dies. The state of mindlessness is like the three: the absence of perception, the cessation attainment, and the attainment of the absence of perception. If those beings are categorized, the hell beings, hungry ghosts, and animals are the three lower realms, and humans, asuras, and gods are the three higher realms, totaling six realms. Furthermore, asuras are categorized with the upper part as gods and the lower part as animals, so gods, humans, and the three lower realms are called the five paths. Moreover, the aggregates of those who are certain of the truth, the aggregates of those who are certain of having severed roots of virtue and committed the five heinous crimes, and the aggregates of those other than these, which are uncertain, are established as three, and many other categories should be learned from elsewhere. To explain some of the categories of the world of sentient beings, the special basis suitable as a vessel for the sacred Dharma is the attainment of the eighteen freedoms and advantages: the four states of unfreedom that are the three lower realms and the gods without perception, which are non-human; the barbarian borderlands, the families with wrong views, the lands where Buddhas do not appear, and the inability to understand signs due to being mentally deficient, mute, and dull-witted, which are the four states of unfreedom of humans; the eight freedoms that are freedom from these eight, and the five personal advantages: being born as a human, having complete faculties, being born in the central land where the Dharma flourishes, not having committed extreme negative actions, and having faith; and the five other advantages: a Buddha appearing in the world, teaching the Dharma, the teachings remaining, having the ability to enter into them, and having a teacher of the Dharma; thus, the eighteen are complete. The three obstacles that hinder the arising of the noble path in the visible Dharma are: the obscuration of fruition, where the path does not arise due to the power of the basis, such as being born in the three lower realms or as an asura with unpleasant sounds; the obscuration of karma, where one cannot see the truth due to having committed the five heinous crimes and abandoned the Dharma; and the obscuration of afflictions, where one cannot enter the path due to the continuous and intense nature of the afflictions. The wheel of conducive conditions that are conducive to the arising of the path

The four are: residing in the realm of gods and humans, which is in accordance with the arising of the noble path; relying on virtuous friends, noble individuals; one's own mind well-wishing for the Dharma; and having the cause of accumulating merit in past lives. The four categories of perfections that individuals should strive for are: the Dharma that accomplishes higher realms and definite goodness; the meaning that accomplishes place, companions, fame, wealth, etc.; enjoying the fruits of these, temporarily enjoying desires; and ultimately attaining liberation. The seven qualities of the heavens are: longevity, freedom from illness, good looks, great fortune, noble lineage, abundant wealth, and great wisdom. Being of noble and virtuous lineage is being of good lineage. Being respected by all, having great power, and accomplishing tasks, etc., is great fortune, and all other qualities can be summarized within this. These mainly arise from protecting the lives of others and refraining from harming life, thus resulting in longevity; by giving aid to the sick through medicine and service, and by avoiding beating others, one obtains freedom from illness; by abandoning anger and practicing patience, one obtains good looks; by abandoning jealousy, one obtains great fortune; by respecting the holy and abandoning arrogance, one obtains noble lineage; by abstaining from stealing and giving generously, one obtains abundant wealth; by asking about what to adopt and abandon and by giving Dharma teachings, one obtains wisdom. The eight worldly dharmas are: desiring and accepting gain, pleasure, fame, and praise, and not desiring the opposite of those four. Because of these, worldly people engage in various activities and disputes, etc., which are the dharmas of ordinary worldly people. The five degenerations of the age of strife are: the decline of life is the degeneration of life, short lifespan; the decline of resources is the degeneration of time, grains, etc., have little taste and potency and do not ripen, etc. The decline of the virtuous aspects of householders is the degeneration of afflictions; the decline of the virtuous aspects of renunciants is the degeneration of views; the decline of the body is the degeneration of beings, such as the degeneration of appearance, intelligence, freedom from illness, etc. The dharmas that make the world good are: the correct view of knowing that cause and effect exist; the ten virtuous paths; the fields of know ledge; and the holy Dharma. That's all for here.
