The term 'contact' is used for what is apprehended. It is also called 'word contact' in Ladakhi. Therefore, one cannot judge by whether the object is in contact or not, or by the size of the object itself, because consciousness has no form. Concepts such as vastness are not the size of form, but the extent of the consciousness itself. The male and female faculties are distinctions of the body faculty, like the thumb and the cavity of a drum, which serve as the basis for experiencing the pleasure of male-female union, etc. The five feelings, faith, etc., and the life faculty are as previously explained. 'All-knowing' refers to the five factors of faith, etc., in the stream of the path of seeing, the three feelings of pleasure, mental pleasure, and equanimity, and the mind faculty, these nine. These nine in the stream of the path of meditation are the 'all-knowing faculty.' These nine in the stream of the path of no-more-learning are called the 'all-knowing endowed faculty.' Thus, there are twenty-two faculties: seven form faculties, one main mind, ten mental factors, one non-associated formation, and three uncontaminated faculties imputed from the nine minds and mental factors. Among the detailed divisions of these faculties, the three, 'all-knowing,' etc., are uncontaminated. The seven form faculties, the life faculty, suffering, and displeasure, these ten are to be abandoned by meditation, so they are contaminated. The remaining three feelings, the five of faith, etc., and the mind, these nine have both contaminated and uncontaminated aspects. The life faculty is born from maturation; the five of faith, etc., the three of all-knowing, etc., and displeasure are not born from maturation. Among these, displeasure arises merely through conceptualization, following one's own wishes, so it is not itself a result of maturation. Since it is necessarily either virtuous or non-virtuous, it has the ability to produce a result of maturation itself, according to the Vaibhashikas. But it seems that the aspect of maturation must also include the unspecified. The details of these will be explained elsewhere. Of the remaining twelve above, the seven form faculties are born from maturation, and some say that those born from the elements are not maturation. The mind and the other four feelings have three: virtuous, non-virtuous, and unspecified. Therefore, virtuous and non-virtuous are contaminated and have maturation, while the unspecified have no maturation. The five of faith, etc., are contaminated and have maturation. The uncontaminated mind and feelings, faith, etc.
