And, similarly, poetics is used to discern whether various names apply to a certain thing; arithmetic is used to understand the nature of numbers, etc.; drama is used to understand various languages; poetry is used to discern whether expression is beautiful; prosody is used to understand the nature of heavy and light syllables in verses, etc. Although this is the case, here I will only briefly explain the tenets derived from inner learning, for knowing these tenets will make one proficient in what is appropriate and inappropriate.

Thus, it would exist constantly and without distinction in all places and times, because they believe that even without a cause, the inherent nature of phenomena exists. Alternatively, sprouts and the like would not exist in any place or time, because they believe that even the assembly of seeds, water, and so on is not its cause, since it is not produced by anything. However, things exist in the place and time where causes and conditions gather, and do not exist when they do not gather, because they are sometimes present and sometimes absent, therefore it is established that they arise from causes. Furthermore, if it is asserted that new consciousness arises from the four elements, then one's own assertion that phenomena are without cause is also lost, and the present consciousness arises from its own immediate cause, the previous consciousness, and continues, because this is evident. It is impossible for it to arise from matter without its own immediate cause, just as sprouts do not grow from stones and light does not arise from darkness. If one sees that the stream of consciousness and clarity arises from the previous to the subsequent, like becoming skilled in reading and so on, and continues without ceasing, then how could it be interrupted at the time of death when the causes are complete? It is like an undamaged seed possessing the conditions of water and so on, or like the flow of a great river. Thus, if one examines, all phenomena arise when their own causes are present and do not arise when they are absent, therefore, it is seen by the reasoning of direct perception that they are dependently originated. They are not from the cause of Ishvara and so on, nor are they without cause. Therefore, these five aggregates that arise dependently have no self or agent, because neither one nor different can be determined in relation to the aggregates. Among the four schools of Buddhism, namely Vaibhashika, Sautrantika, Madhyamaka, and Yogachara, the Vaibhashikas assert that the knowable five bases and the three times are substantially existent, because the established bases exist in it and its dharmas, so they believe that everything exists. Among these, what can be destroyed or eliminated by wisdom, such as a vase, exists conventionally; the indivisible atom and the indivisible moment are truly existent, being the basis of the composition of all things. Both what exists conventionally and what exists ultimately are considered non-empty because the inherent nature of each dharma is substantially existent. The self of a person is neither one nor different from the five aggregates, therefore it is not substantially existent, and the eye

Relying on faculties, etc., knowledge grasps objects without forms in a naked manner simultaneously with itself, does not accept self-awareness, and considers characteristics such as birth to be different from entities, etc. There are various ways of wanting terms. The Sutra School believes that the ways of wanting partless pairs and selflessness are the same as above, but non-associated formations and unconditioned phenomena are not established as substances, but are merely imputed. Non-associated formations are merely labeled as the state of material consciousness, but they do not have their own independent entity separately. Unconditioned phenomena are merely labeled from cutting off the object of negation. From the cause of the collection of the previous object, faculty, and consciousness, the present eye consciousness, etc., arise. The appearance of the object in the mind by that consciousness is not regarded as the actual object, because the object is the cause of creating the appearance, hidden in the background. All consciousnesses are aware of themselves, and all things arise from four conditions and are of the nature of ceasing momentarily with their own entity. The characteristics of that thing, such as birth, etc., are not different, but are considered to be merely labeled from the opposite point of view. These are endowed with the reasoning of real power in measuring external objects, and by realizing that labels do not have the nature of being established as substances, etc., they surpass the doctrine of the Vaibhashikas in some ways of measuring the meaning of things without being inverted. Although non-associated things are labels, since the terms are consistent in meaning, it must be admitted that they are attributes that exist on things. It should be known that if the Vaibhashikas are merely complete labels, then there will be no impermanence on things. Similarly, unconditioned phenomena such as space must also be considered to exist in terms. The Mind-Only School believes that all appearances are like this: from beginningless time, the habitual imprints of various concepts are placed on the alaya consciousness, and by the power of that, the mind, the alaya consciousness itself, appears as the appearance of the abode, things, and body. There is nothing else, so everything is just an appearance of the mind. For example, like the appearance in a dream. External objects other than consciousness do not exist. Gross objects, the edge of coldness, and the two partless bases of composition do not exist in the ultimate sense. When partless particles compose gross objects, the central particle faces...
