The branch of the father. The branch that manifests and accomplishes birth and old age and death, becoming four types. It can also be summarized into three: ignorance, craving, and grasping, these three are afflictions. Action and existence are karma. The remaining seven are the seven bases of suffering. These three are sequentially called the all-pervasive affliction of affliction, the all-pervasive affliction of karma, and the all-pervasive affliction of life or existence, because they cause sentient beings to be afflicted. They are also sequentially called the other-dependence of affliction, the other-dependence of karma, and the other-dependence of suffering. From the three afflictions arise two karmas, from which arise the seven bases of suffering, and from the seven, afflictions and karma arise again, thus continuously revolving. Among the twelve branches, the five karmic afflictions and consciousness are the causes that gather the other branches, namely ignorance, karma, craving, and the four consciousnesses. Craving and grasping are craving, and action and existence are karma. Among them, consciousness is like a seed, karma is like a field, craving is like moisture, and ignorance is like a sower and fertilizer, these four cause the sprout of name and form to form in the place of existence. If we summarize the arising of dependent origination, then the five karmic afflictions are the cause, gathered by the truth of the origin of suffering, and the remaining seven are gathered by the truth of suffering. If we consider the reversal, by abandoning ignorance with the wisdom that realizes the nature of truth, causing the five karmic afflictions to reverse is the path truth, and the seven bases of suffering thus ceasing is the cessation truth, which is the nature of the twelve truths. Thus, this dependent origination is the most precious and profound treasure in the Buddha's teachings, whoever sees dependent origination with the eye of wisdom, sees the Dharma of the nature of the eightfold noble path, and understands all knowable things with the vision of wisdom, that is, sees the Dharmakaya of the Buddha. Thus it is said. The chapter on dependent origination ends. Place and non-place pervade all knowable things, that is, the difference between what arises from what cause and what does not arise. From virtuous karma arises happiness,

Suffering does not arise, and just as one's own sprout grows from the seed of rice, but the sprout of barley does not grow, and just as realizing no-self and attaining liberation is abiding, and grasping at self and attaining liberation is not abiding, and just as fire is hot and cold does not abide in it, in the nature of all knowable things there are various abidings and non-abidings. To symbolize this, seven others-dependent are spoken of, such as the unwanted others-dependent, going to the lower realms by unwholesome actions; the desired others-dependent, being born in the happy realms by wholesome actions; the completely pure others-dependent, not attaining complete purity without abandoning obscurations; the simultaneously arising others-dependent, because of accumulating incomparable karma, Buddhas and Chakravartins do not each appear together as a pair; the powerless others-dependent, with the body of a woman, one cannot master the seven precious things such as the wheel; the attainable others-dependent, with the body of a woman, one cannot attain the Pratyekabuddha fruit; the constantly practiced others-dependent, noble ones do not practice killing, etc. These are all caused by the others-dependent of abiding and non-abiding, and not acting as one pleases, this is the nature of things, symbolized by this teaching. One should know what exists and what does not exist in phenomena, such as suffering arising from the cause of arising, and cessation arising from the path, etc., are abiding, and suffering arising from the path, and cessation arising from the cause of arising, etc., are non-abiding. All that is encompassed by the entry and return of the four truths by the principle of dependent origination is also included here. In short, all places of knowable knowledge are for the sake of knowing abiding and non-abiding, such as craftsmanship knowing the circumstances of what is good and bad to do, and medicine knowing the antidotes that pacify and do not pacify diseases, and grammar knowing the nature of names, etc., and the conditions applied to them, and how to change from them, the abiding and non-abiding, and logic knowing the way in which the object to be proven can and cannot be proven from the means of proof, and inner science knowing the reality of things, and correctly knowing that the main goal to be pursued is the path and cessation.
