Austerity, discipline, affliction, bondage, liberation, animate, inanimate, these are the seven. Among them, austerity is relying on the five fires, wandering naked, not eating food, the mendicant's asceticism, and plucking hair, etc. Discipline is the ten virtues, namely, attaching bells to the feet for fear of killing living beings, not drinking water without a giver, not speaking any words for fear of lying, etc. Afflictions are the three poisons such as desire. Bondage is wandering in samsara. Liberation is attaining liberation by exhausting all karma through the power of austerity. Moreover, they believe that at the time of liberation, one will transform into a form like a white umbrella held above the three thousand worlds. Life is mind, that is, the four elements that possess life, body, and power, and trees that possess individual senses such as ears. Conch shells, fish fins, etc., have two: body and tongue, but no other senses. Similarly, fireflies, ants, etc., have three: body, tongue, and nose. Bees, long-beaked bees, etc., have everything except eyes. Humans, horses, etc., have all five senses; these are animate. Inanimate things are sound, smell, taste, light, sky, shadow, rainbow, image, reflection, etc. In general, they believe that all knowable things are different in place, time, and number, but their nature is the same. Such a system, because it does not properly understand the reality of things, abandons the ultimate meaning, and therefore, they dwell in the dense forest of existence, not on the true path. Austerities, etc., are not established in the ultimate sense, and in the conventional sense, one cannot exhaust karma and attain liberation through them. If one does not abandon afflictions, one cannot abandon karma. Life and mind are not one, because the consciousness of the old and young does not gather at the same time, and when a person becomes a dog, it would become one life, etc., which is flawed. Trees, etc., have mind, but it is negated because it cannot be seen. It is impossible for many things in place, time, and number to have the same nature, just like universals. If there is a permanent self of bondage and liberation, then liberation is impossible, etc., therefore it is known that that system is meaningless. Fifth, the Purvas or Vaisheshikas follow the god Purva, relying on the essence of view and the six lineages of Purva, etc., and believe that there are no past or future lives. The Charvakas follow the sky, so that path deceives both oneself and others.

Because it harms all the worlds, it must be stopped. Moreover, the previous life exists because the first moment of birth consciousness will not arise without the preceding similar kind. Moreover, its immediate cause is consciousness, not earth, etc., because it is unreasonable. For the production of the next life, the cause is complete and there is no obstacle. If everything that is not seen now does not exist, then one will not see oneself or others in the future, so there is no need to prepare food, etc. for them. Moreover, one's own objects of enjoyment would also become non-existent. If you say that those can be seen in other places and times, so it cannot be established as non-existent, then the previous and next lives can also be seen in other places and times. Because there is no harm and there is a reason to establish it. Saying that inference is not valid is also unreasonable, because there is no possibility of confusion for what is truly complete without appearing like the three aspects. Even if the general meaning is taken as the object, it will not deceive the self-characteristic. If inference is not valid, then one cannot infer from the words of the materialists that there is no afterlife. Furthermore, if you only establish what is to be measured by direct perception, how do you measure it if you have not seen with direct perception that there is no afterlife? If it can be established merely by the absence of direct perception, then it is contradictory. Because the involvement of direct perception would become not a reason for establishment, and the reason for establishment would be reversed, so what is to be established is established instead, which is ridiculous. Now, for the Buddhist tenets that should be adopted, there are also two vehicles: the Lesser Vehicle and the Great Vehicle. In the Lesser Vehicle, there are two vehicles according to the order of faculties: the Hearer Vehicle and the Solitary Realizer Vehicle. First, for the Hearer Vehicle, there are three classifications: divisions, nature, and tenets. First, there are eighteen divisions: initially, the fundamental divisions are the Mahasamghika and the Sthavira. From the Mahasamghika, there are eight divisions: Ekavyavaharika, Lokottaravada, Bahusrutiya, Prajnaptivada, Cetiyavada, Purvasaila, and Aparasaila. From the Sthavira, there are ten divisions: Haimavata, Sarvastivada, Sautrantika, Vatsiputriya, Dharmottariya, Bhadrayaniya, Sammitiya, Mahasamghika, Dharmaguptaka, and Kasyapiya, making a total of eighteen divisions. These each have different views, and they refute those.
