Therefore, since it is the same as other statements, if things arise without cause, they will constantly fall into the extremes of existence and non-existence. If consciousness cannot recognize itself, it is impossible to experience clearly, and ultimately everything will become like darkness. Merely through bathing, etc., one cannot eliminate karmic obscurations, because this does not contradict non-Buddhist causes. Actions such as war, born of attachment and aversion, also cannot eliminate karmic obscurations, because their essence is unwholesome. Therefore, such a path is of no help for liberation. Among the practitioners, the rationalists secretly proclaim: based on scriptures such as the Wheel of Mindfulness, they contemplate all outer vessels and inner sentiments as the nature of a single self. That is, all above is contemplated as the head of a male, all below as the feet of a male, the sky as the belly, the four directions as the hands, the sun and moon as the eyes, etc. That great self has nine special characteristics: its essence is sentient being, it has a body, it is pervasive, constant, unique, it is the basis of arising and ceasing, it is not defiled by the faults and merits of sentient beings, it is not an object of consciousness, and it is not merely an expression of language. If one places the mind in this indestructible, empty great self, the mind of dualistic grasping will disappear, and at the time of death, just as when a pot is broken, the space inside the pot merges into the great space, one merges into that great self and attains liberation. Such a view is actually creating a new ocean of samsaric suffering, because it is the wave of one's own unreal conceptual ocean, which is extremely difficult to overcome, which is truly amazing! If analyzed, this should be a joke. Because everything is not the nature of a single self, but appears as various things, and is impermanent. If it were constant, then the special characteristic of being the basis of arising and ceasing would be unreasonable. Those things established by consciousness, named as the body of a male, are also unreasonable due to the confusion of order, etc. Since there is no measure to know that such an inconceivable great self exists, it is merely a promise, etc., which are refuted. The fourth is the naked ones or sky-clad ones, who follow the tradition of the Brahmin victors, considering the King's Treatise, etc., as a measure, and explain that treatise through seven words of knowledge, namely difficulty.
