Because there is not, in mere conventional terms, things like pots are not emptiness, because they appear to function and are true. If examined in ultimate terms, nothing is found, so it is emptiness. Therefore, the ultimate truth that can withstand examination and the conventional truth that cannot withstand examination, as subjects and properties, cannot be established on a single basis, because if the conventional is impermanent, then the ultimate should also become impermanent, and if the ultimate has no arising or ceasing, then the conventional should also become without arising or ceasing. Therefore, the appearing conventional subject and the empty ultimate property are merely established in mutual dependence. The division of the conventional into right and wrong is like the higher self-sufficient school. If we examine this, then emptiness that is not appearing cannot exist in either of the two truths, because if it does not appear to anyone, then its form is completely non-existent, so it should also become non-existent in the conventional, like a rabbit's horn. Appearance different from emptiness is also not found, because everything that appears cannot be established when examined. If the ultimate cannot be the object of appearance to be examined, then it cannot be the object of examination either, because if it is to be measured by knowledge and expression, then the form must appear, and if it does not, then it cannot be realized. Freedom from elaboration is different from this, because it transcends the extremes of clinging to either appearance or emptiness. The emptiness here must be regarded as separate from appearance, but that is not allowed. Meditating on emptiness different from appearance is not the path, because it does not eliminate obscurations and is not suitable as something to be abandoned or relied upon. For example, it is like knowing that the sky is empty when anger arises towards an enemy is of no benefit. The so-called emptiness cannot be found anywhere, because whatever is the object of knowledge of direction and time, it has the form of appearance. Second, the higher self-sufficient school: Teachers Yeshe Nyingpo, Zhiwa-tsho, Kamalaśīla, etc., believe that the ultimate is merely illusion and emptiness, because it cannot be examined by reason, so in the meaning of the ultimate reality, it is beyond all elaboration, but in the stage of conventional terms, conventional things each hold their own characteristics and exist without deception. If we examine this with reason, then there is not the slightest emptiness or ultimate truth that is established as true, and the two are established equally, so it is with acceptance, and all the establishment of one's own system and the refutation of others are based on self-sufficient logic.

And it is done by means of... Below this, other-origination is also accepted. In conventional truth, what appears and functions, like the moon in the sky, is the valid conventional truth; what appears but cannot function as it appears, like the appearance of two moons, is the false conventional truth. Thus, the deluded conventional truths do not revert until the pure ground is attained. In the subsequent attainment of the noble ones, the appearance is called the pure worldly. Thus, by knowing the two truths to be non-contradictory, accumulating the two accumulations, one wishes to attain the two bodies. If one examines this, in the ultimate truth, the valid and invalid conventional truths are the same. Both arise from causes and conditions and appear as objects. If examined, they are equally unestablished. Therefore, the assertion that things are established by their own characteristics is merely a forceful imputation due to a fondness for elaboration. If examined, nothing is established. Other-origination is also the same as self-origination. If examined, neither can be found to arise in any way. If it is said that they are not the same, but that other-origination exists merely in name, then, when examining the self, other, arising, and non-arising of things that appear merely in name, such as earth and sprouts, they cannot be found anywhere. Therefore, it is impossible to posit other ultimate other-originations apart from that. If so, when a sprout arises from a seed, how does it arise in name? Answer: Due to the power of the cause, such as the seed, the effect, such as the sprout, appears to arise unfailingly. This is accepted as dependent origination, but the four extremes should not be accepted. Because the four extremes are not accepted, thus, for this dependently originated thing, which is merely an appearance, even in name, there is not a particle established by its own characteristics. Therefore, all the networks of elaboration, such as self, other, arising, and non-arising, are false, and due to its power, there is no acceptance either. Furthermore, if one examines this apparent measure, there is no ultimate truth that is unestablished, because without appearance, its emptiness cannot be established. Both are equally unestablished, being merely imputed. The division into two truths exists only in the mind, but in reality, they are not established as two. Therefore, the detailed analysis of the phenomena of appearance, established by the elaborations of philosophical tenets, becomes the cause of non-reversion of subtle elaborations. Therefore, with the meaning of equality undefiled by conceptual thought, from the beginning, all appearances are liberated in their own place, which is Madhyamaka.
