Explanation. Secondly, the Pratyekabuddhas are those individuals with medium faculties who possess the lineage of Pratyekabuddhas. Through the power of prior habituation, at the final moment of their existence, they contemplate the true meaning through the mode of dependent origination. By understanding that the self of the person and the apprehended are without inherent existence, they realize the two aspects of selflessness and attain the fruit of Pratyekabuddha Arhat, which is also established as inferior to the Great Vehicle. That is, all phenomena, both internal and external, arise in the manner of dependent origination. For example, sprouts arise in dependence on external seeds, and internally, from ignorance to old age and death. Among these, in the previous life, there was ignorance that did not understand the true meaning. From this, karma was accumulated to accomplish this life, which is action. From this, consciousness, which is the cause that projects into existence and the result of being projected, is accomplished. From consciousness, the aggregates of name and form, such as the coagulated mass, are accomplished. From this, the six sense bases, such as the eye, are accomplished. From the six sense bases, contact arises from the convergence of object, faculty, and consciousness. From this, feeling arises. From feeling, craving for accepting and rejecting objects arises. From craving, grasping at objects arises. From this, the accumulation of karma that accomplishes existence is called existence. From existence, birth in the six realms arises. From birth, old age and death arise. Among these twelve, ignorance, craving, and grasping are the three afflictions. Action and existence are the two karmas. The remaining seven are the aggregates of suffering. Thus, from afflictions, karma arises. From karma, suffering arises. From the basis of suffering, afflictions and karma arise again. Therefore, until ignorance is reversed, the wheel of dependent origination of existence will continue to turn. The way Pratyekabuddhas meditate on these aspects is by looking at the bones in a charnel ground and understanding that this came from death, and that death came from birth, and so on, up to ignorance. And they understand that ignorance is abandoned by the wisdom that realizes selflessness, and thus they rely on their own continuum to practice the path. In this way, old age and death are the nature of suffering. Therefore, by contemplating the order of arising, such as that it arises from birth, they realize the truth of suffering. And by contemplating the order of cessation, such as that when birth ceases, old age and death cease, they realize the truth of cessation.

Entering Napa. Since ignorance is the root of arising, contemplating the order in which actions and so forth arise from it, one can realize the truth of arising. Since ignorance ceases, actions cease, and so forth, contemplating the order of cessation, one can understand that the antidote to arising is selflessness, and that cultivation and so forth are the nature of the path truth. Gathering in such a way is practice, and the self-born fruit like a rhinoceros can be manifested on a single cushion. However, it is not entirely certain that this is the lineage of self-born ones, but rather the reasoning that ultimately leads to the one vehicle is certain. Moreover, dependence and connection also have no inherent nature, because mutual contact and generation, etc., are not established. If there is no object to be grasped, then the grasper is also not truly existent, because the two are equal. Being happy in solitude is also not a supreme practice, because in the ultimate truth there is no distinction between solitude and non-solitude. A mind attached to peace in solitude is not the conduct of a noble person, nor is it the ultimate fruit, so it is also an inferior path. Now, the second part, explaining the principles of the Great Vehicle. The ocean is a name for the extremely immeasurable, and even more immeasurable than that is the name known as the Great Snow Mountain Ocean. Therefore, like the Great Snow Mountain Ocean, the Great Vehicle of the Buddha, with its immeasurable qualities of depth and vastness, is superior by virtue of the seven great armors, etc. The armor of great diligence, rejoicing in benefiting sentient beings for countless eons, exists in the Great Vehicle but not in the Lesser Vehicle. Similarly, the great object is to focus on the nature of reality, which is like the sky; the great accomplishment is to accomplish the benefit of both oneself and others; the great wisdom is the wisdom that unites emptiness, which is empty of the two selves, with compassion; the great skillful means is not abiding in samsara or nirvana; the great accomplishment is the immeasurable qualities of the Buddha, such as powers; and the great activity is the spontaneous accomplishment of the benefit of others as long as samsara exists. These are not present in the Lesser Vehicle but are present in the Great Vehicle, and therefore it is superior. In this way, although it is merely the nature of the supreme Great Vehicle, without difference, because the way of explaining the intention of the Great Vehicle's teachings differs, the views of the initial guiding chariots arose in three different ways: the Mind-Only School, the Svatantrika School, and the Prasangika School.
