Unlike the lower paths that are led by effort, Because great wisdom is inherently present, it is the effortless self-display. Therefore, the end of all paths lies in this, so this is the supreme teacher of all. Although the continuum of the result is explained in various ways, the meaning is the same, and ultimately it is no different from the body of omniscient wisdom. Thus, the view that establishes the basis of the three canons of sutra, vinaya, and abhidharma, and the way to practice the path, thereby, there are also differences in conduct: the conduct with effort that relies on many external materials and implements, etc., is the Mahāyoga practitioner; not focusing on engaging in external activities, but striving for profound inner means in an unelaborated manner, thereby obtaining the proximate conduct of gathering together with consorts, mantra-born coemergent yoginis, is the Anuyoga practitioner; not focusing on engaging in either external or internal activities, but in an extremely unelaborated manner, from the nature of awareness-wisdom itself, naturally arising effortless spontaneous conduct, this is the conduct of the Atiyoga practitioner. Similarly, in meditation, Mahāyoga achieves special samādhi by gradually familiarizing oneself with the method of settling the mind; Anuyoga quickly achieves special śamatha by binding the winds and mind through the key points of the vajra body; these two are with effort. But in the Atiyoga tradition, because awareness-wisdom itself is recognized, from the self-naturally accomplished contemplation, there is no need to hold the mind in any way. Similarly, in terms of maṇḍalas, there are also the differences of the three stages of generation stage, completion stage, and Dzogchen, namely, mainly practicing the maṇḍala of image and vipassanā; mainly practicing the maṇḍala of great bliss bodhicitta; and effortlessly taking the self-nature primordial maṇḍala as the path. In terms of empowerment, although all Anuttarayoga is matured through the four empowerments, in the maṇḍala of image and samādhi, mainly relying on external materials to receive empowerment; in the vajra body maṇḍala, mainly receiving empowerment from the bodhicitta empowerment substance of the union of father and mother; awareness bodhi
