When I don't clearly see many spheres approaching, I doubt whether they are horses or not. When I say that this horned sphere is not a horse because it is horned, even if I take the sphere characterized by horns as the subject of the thesis and posit horns as the reason, it can still be a valid cognition of non-horse. Second, or by distinguishing it with "produced by effort," thereby indicating and understanding the sound as the subject of the thesis, because "produced by effort" itself does not exist in the subject of the thesis, but is the opposite. When proving that sound is impermanent with "produced by effort," "produced by effort" is not a component of what is to be proven, because there is no need to newly prove it with the reason of "produced by effort." For example, when wanting to know about Devadatta's house and asking, if it is indicated that "this is where the crow is staying," then after knowing the house, it will be taken as the place to go, without needing to rely on the crow. Or, if it is said, "Bring that person wearing white clothes," then the person represented by the white clothes is the desired object, but if later they don't wear white clothes, it won't become someone who shouldn't be brought. Second, because this is similar to audibility, if audibility is posited as the reason to prove that sound is impermanent, will it also become positing the proponent as the reason? No, because the basis of the characteristic, sound, and the opposite dharma are different, so positing the characteristic audibility as the reason is also not suitable as one aspect of the commitment. Up to this point, the establishment of the knowable aspect (ཕྱོགས་,pakṣa, पक्ष, पक्ष,paksha, aspect) has been completed. Now is the second part, the classification of the knowable reason. The common necessity of the nine aspects of the thesis is shown. The individual necessity of the three middle ones is explained. The meaning of not separately showing the unobserved is explained. First part. The meaning of classifying starting from the aspects of the thesis. Avoiding disputes about the aspects of the thesis themselves. The reason for classifying into nine aspects of the thesis. First. In the Pramāṇasūtra. In the case of inference for others. The aspect of the thesis, the presence or absence of similar instances, and each of the two types. There are also three types in dissimilar instances. There are two types of presence or absence. As it says. Measurable as made and impermanent, and made and audible are produced by effort. Impermanent, produced by effort, not tangible. These nine are permanence, etc. Among them, what is present in the similar class, and what is absent in the two types. That which is the opposite of that reason is the contradictory.

All are uncertain. Thus it is said. This first verse, because it quotes "omniscience" and the last as an adornment, is slightly different from the translation of the root sutra nowadays, but this is good. Like this, only about nine aspects of the dharma have been taught, and nothing else has been said. In general, this sign has two types: valid and seemingly valid. The valid ones also have three types: result, nature, and non-apprehension. There are also many internal divisions there. The seemingly valid ones also have three types: unestablished, contradictory, and uncertain. Although there are many internal divisions in each, why are only these nine, two valid and seven seemingly valid, mentioned? Because in order to easily grasp and understand the vast meaning of the classification of valid and seemingly valid reasoning with little effort, in order to accomplish what is to be established, it is said that it is summarized by classifying into nine aspects of the dharma. That is, on a square line, in the nine tables of two intersecting lines, the top three are respectively: Sound, subject. It is permanent, because it is measurable. Thus it is said. Sound, subject. It is impermanent, because it is produced. Thus it is said. Sound, subject. It arises from effort, because it is impermanent. Thus it is established. The middle three are respectively: Sound, subject. It is permanent, because it is produced. Thus it is said. Sound, subject. It is permanent, because it is audible. Thus it is said. Conch sound, subject. It is permanent, because it arises from effort. Thus it is established. The bottom three are respectively: Sound, subject. It does not arise from effort, because it is impermanent. Thus it is said. Conch sound, subject. It is impermanent, because it arises from effort. Thus it is said. Sound, subject. It is permanent, because it is not tangible. Thus it should be established. After establishing it in that way, it becomes two valid ones, two contradictory ones, and five uncertain ones. From the wheel of nine aspects of the dharma, the top and bottom two are valid. The side two are contradictory. The four corners are four common uncertain ones. The center is a non-common uncertain one. As it is said. Or, in the example of the non-common uncertain one in the center, a living body, subject. It is with a self, because it has life. It is also similar to establish it in this way. That is, there are three types of concordant aspects: existing, non-existing, and partially entering. Each of these also has three types of discordant aspects: existing, non-existing, and partially entering.
