Can it be accomplished just like that? Like being carefree, merely promising to cultivate in one's own mindstream cannot accomplish anything. Second, speaking of meaning. There are three: summary, detailed explanation, and refutation. First, the term "meaning" mentioned in the Sutra is to prove that even if the reason is not established in meaning, the mere words spoken in the scriptures and the sound of the naming method, as well as the arguments fabricated by the opponent himself, are not true reasons. For example, "Sound is permanent because it is spoken in the scriptures," and "because it is a quality of space." Merely arbitrary names, such as "Particles are not obstacles because they are not embodied," and the owl sect also established the name of not being embodied for things such as length that cannot be measured by direct perception. Also, "Trees have consciousness because they die when their bark is peeled," etc., as mentioned before. Fabricated by oneself, for example, "Sound is permanent because it is any one of the similar and concordant." Like this, merely words and arbitrary reasons cannot establish meaning. If it could be established, then everything could establish everything, which is unreasonable. Therefore, without relying on sound and fabrication, just as knowing fire from smoke, the essence of the reason itself can establish the meaning to be proven. Second, mere fabrication and scriptures are not valid proofs. The way that mere statements are not valid proofs. First, why are mere self-fabrications and scriptures not valid proofs when used as reasons? Because influenced by people's thoughts, there are various fabrications, and different scriptures that show various contents, although there are many, these fabrications and scriptures are only related to the author's intention and what follows, and there is no relationship of non-occurrence with the meaning of the thing itself. Moreover, these may be contrary to the true situation of things, and are reversed, therefore, they are not determined by valid cognition as true proofs, so it is a mistake to regard fabricated reasons and the sound of scriptures as true proofs. If it is not a mistake, then everything said in people's fabrications and scriptures must be true, then the distinction of contradictory meanings in the object of knowledge is...

will also become possible. Second, regarding the two statements, they do not directly establish the argument, but there is a difference as to whether they are established through indirect means. First, the sign that possesses the three characteristics, through its own meaning, understands the meaning to be proven, which arises from the power of the object itself. Therefore, in order to establish the meaning to be proven, merely stating the words of the tenet and the reason, like dispelling darkness with a candle, does not have the power to establish the argument. Therefore, stating the tenet and the reason does not establish the meaning to be proven from its own essence. If that were the case, merely through words, meaning would be accomplished, and no one would suffer poverty. Therefore, only the reasoning that arises from the power of the object itself can establish the meaning to be proven. This comes from the actual situation of the object itself, and does not follow sound and conceptualization. Therefore, it shows that only establishing the meaning is important. Second, the words of the tenet, even through indirect means, cannot establish the argument, while the reason can establish the argument through indirect means. First, if someone says that since the teacher acknowledges sound as valid cognition, the words of the tenet can also be considered an argument, then the words of the tenet are to show others the speaker's own intention to express. Merely the existence of such an intention in the speaker's continuum is valid cognition, but from that, certainty about what is to be proven does not arise, because doubts such as "Is it like this? Is it not like this?" arise. Therefore, it does not directly establish the meaning of the tenet. Until the correct argument is seen, it cannot be determined in this way. If it could be determined, then none of the vows made by anyone would fail to be fulfilled. Therefore, merely stating what is to be proven or the vow not only cannot be directly established, but also through indirect means, it does not have the power to establish the meaning to be proven, because even if the meaning is pursued, nothing more can be understood from it. Second, stating the reason itself does not have the power, but because it shows the power of the three characteristics of meaning, through indirect means, by touching the actual situation of the meaning, the meaning to be proven will be established. Therefore, merely through words, no meaning can be established, but like pointing to the moon with a finger, when the meaning is symbolized and understood through words, the meaning can be established in this way. Third, regarding the refutation of the debate, scriptures and
