According to the Samkhya school's view, all knowledge is reduced to twenty-five categories. Apart from the twenty-four, such as the eye, which are considered entities, there is no other conscious person. It is not assembled and accumulated, while the eye and so on are coarse things composed of un-assembled and un-accumulated particles. In general, the example of things like beds helping other individuals and so on, even for Buddhists, establishes pervasion. Moreover, the property of being a subject of inference can also be established on the eye and so on. If that is established, then the desired "self" will be established, so they think. In response to this: the fact that the eye and so on help others by seeing things and so on is already established, so there is no need to prove it. Moreover, this reason for proving the desired "self" is ineffective, because there is no concomitance in the example. If it is not desired, then it will contradict the stated dharma. For example, what is desired and sometimes actually the eye and so on are not assembled and accumulated, yet they benefit other objects, because they are assembled and accumulated. If it is written like this, if it tends towards what is desired, then what is not assembled and accumulated, and the object that enjoys the realm, the object is thinking of the person, even if it is not proven, just doing it according to the literal meaning, then does this "object that is not assembled and accumulated" refer upwards to the entity eye and so on, or downwards to other beneficiaries? If it is the former, the eye and so on are the base, and not being assembled and accumulated is its attribute, then the reason "being assembled and accumulated" must be established on the entity, so this reason becomes a reason that contradicts the attribute of the dharma. If being assembled and accumulated is the base, and the eye and so on are the attribute, then it becomes a reason that contradicts the nature of the entity. Even if it is not combined with the dharma to be proven, similarly, the reason for the way of holding the base and attribute becomes a reason that contradicts the nature of the dharma and the attribute of the dharma, because the reason itself must be established in the collective sense, so its dharma and reason will contradict each other in that way. Someone might think, can these four distinctions be made for the proof? Even if such distinctions are made, there is nothing to refute, but because there is not much need, the distinctions were not made. It is to specifically point out the faults of the Samkhya school's pretense that the distinction of contradiction was made. Second, the text and the refutation of its answer. First,

I, with the reasoning that refutes the deceptive signs of those who possess, also have the faults of not conforming to one's own intention and contradicting one's own words in the formulation of the Charvakas, who establish the non-existence of the afterlife with the combination of two. How so? The Charvakas say: The pot, as the subject to be proven, is combined with either a person coming from the afterlife or a pot, because it is an object that is not a lotus. For example, like a pot with a wall. They say this. Or, it can also be established as: combined with either a person who is one with body and mind or a pot. To this, the intention of this commentator is that if one directly says combined with a person who is one with body and mind, or a person coming from another life, then it is thought that it cannot be established, so with a deceptive means, it is established as combined with either a pot. Because generally, if it is an object, then it is not necessarily just one, so the pervasion of being combined with any other is established. Therefore, in a specific situation, the property of being an object that is not a lotus is established on the pot. If this is established, then generally it is established as merely being combined with two. And, in the formulation, it is suddenly said to be combined with either a person or a pot, because a pot cannot be combined with a pot, so it is established as being combined with a person. For example, for a pot placed next to a wall, that pot is established as being combined with the wall, that is what he thinks. To this, according to his intention, the pervasion can never be established. Because a pot being combined with a pot is contradictory, and being combined with a person is impossible, so it is not at all combined with any one. In the example, being combined with a person can never be established either. Second, things and oneself are not the same. First, if the Charvakas again say: This that is to be established, there is no need to distinguish between the body of a person and a pot, to examine which one it is combined with, because what is to be established is merely being combined with two, so there is no need to distinguish between any of those two, Generally, it is considered to be combined with any one. If it is combined with two, then there must be a pot that has the combination of two, and the cause that is combined with two must be the body, then, the so-called combination of any one, other than the body and pot themselves, for the pot
