I, just as a lamp cannot illuminate a vase that is illuminated by a lamp. Second, the inability to infer the minds of others is like this: through the direct perception of self-awareness, one sees the mind in one's own continuum, and sees that from that mind arise verbal expressions and bodily movements, etc., and thus infers the minds of others through expressions, etc. However, for those who do not accept self-awareness, such inference will not occur, because they have not seen the mind and expressions, etc., in their own continuum as being connected in a cause-and-effect relationship, so it is impossible for them to generate the thought, "This is the result of this." Moreover, since the minds of others are hidden, it is impossible to know that expressions, etc., are the results of the mind. Second, in particular, in order to prove that the mind consciousness exists in one's own continuum, there is no perfectly established sign of the object, for even if one does not focus on nearby objects, the mind is always present. Conceptual minds arise merely from internal signs and effort, and if that is not established by self-awareness, then what other sign can establish it? For there is no way to establish it. Third, the common refutation by others of other-illumination: Accepting other-awareness is unreasonable for illumination, Accepting self-awareness is not the same. First, according to you who claim that all knowledge is purely other-awareness, just as the mind illuminates objects, how can the prior mind be fully illuminated by the subsequent mind? Because both the prior and subsequent minds are the same in that their own nature is not illuminating, how can that which does not illuminate itself illuminate others? Just like two vases in a dark room, what is the reason for becoming the illuminated and the illuminator? That is unreasonable. Second, for oneself, it is not the same, give a real answer. That way is not applicable to other tenets. Therefore, the name of object illumination is reasonable. First, if the prior mind does not illuminate, the subsequent mind cannot illuminate, then how can your own external object, which is an inanimate nature that does not illuminate and has no self-awareness, be illuminated by the mind? If it is said that the mind illuminating objects is unreasonable. If one assumes the existence of external objects, the object is not illuminating, but for the root consciousness that illuminates itself, the nature of the external object will transfer, because the aspect is established, so it is merely the application of the name of illumination. Such object illumination is also the nature of that knowledge, so knowledge itself

Since you are very clear, it is acceptable to say "the meaning is clear," because consciousness arises in that clear form. Second, if someone thinks that the way external objects appear clearly in consciousness is that the later consciousness appears as the form of the earlier consciousness, then the later consciousness is established as being able to know itself, because it can clearly appear as the form of the earlier consciousness. If this is the case, if one consciousness is established as self-aware, then all consciousnesses should be established as self-aware. If consciousness itself is not clear, then external objects such as vases also exist with consciousness, but are not clear. In the case of the same dharma nature, since there is no difference, if unclear consciousness can make external objects clear, then unclear vases should also be able to make consciousness clear, because you believe that even if you are not clear, you can make other things clear. The third part has three aspects: meaning, metaphor, and conclusion. First, something that is not clear itself cannot make other things clear, therefore, we believe that consciousness itself does not depend on other things, and is very clear with the clear nature like a lamp, and unclear colors and other external objects, when they are known, appear clear by the transfer of nature or form, then it is said that the meaning is very clearly recognized by consciousness. Even if the previous and subsequent consciousnesses are the same, the later consciousness does not think that the other previous consciousness is very clear, because the previous consciousness itself is very clear and does not need other things to make it clear, and the object of the previous consciousness, whatever meaning it is, is produced very clearly with the nature of that meaning. Second, for example, the two previous and subsequent consciousnesses are like two lamps, because both are clear, they will not make each other clear, but only by arising and clearly appearing in the form of what meaning, there will be the name of object and subject. The so-called external object is not clear, and consciousness makes it clear, is also because consciousness itself is clear that there will be this name, if consciousness itself is not clear, there will be no such name, just like oil lamps and vases, etc., because there is a difference between clear and unclear, so it becomes the nature of what is illuminated and what illuminates, so that such names are very popular, for the two whose nature is not clear, it is impossible to have such names. Third, without consciousness, just the collection of object and sense organs, it cannot be determined to say "seeing the object", therefore the reason is the experience of the object.
