So, how does it become a clarifier? Because there is nothing in it that appears as white, all appearances of objects and subjects will disappear. If this clear appearance, which is established through experience, is neither an object nor a subject, then it is tantamount to denying the obvious clear appearance, and the understanding that other objects and subjects that cannot appear are experienced by others is like holding a lamp in hand but hoping for darkness to become a clarifier, which is extremely perverse. Therefore, the clear and bright appearance of white and so on is the clarity of knowledge itself. If it is not clear, then it is tantamount to admitting that it is clear but not clear, so all beings will become completely unclear. Like this, while it is appearing, if it is thought that there is other knowledge residing within that clarifies objects, and that other knowledge clarifies white and so on, and that knowledge also needs to be clarified by other later knowledge, then such clarification would have to be done again and again by other clarifiers, which would lead to the fault of endless clarification. This is like holding a lamp in hand and looking for another clarifier for the lamp, which is too excessive. Therefore, just by this obvious experience of what and what kind of object is clearly appearing, it is established that knowledge is self-illuminating. Even if it appears as object and subject, the different objects to be clarified

Because seeing or knowing does not exist. The above pervasion is also established, because when two related dharmas are seen as related, it will definitely be determined that "this sees that," otherwise that is impossible. Object and subject exist simultaneously, like smoke and fire, it is impossible to see them sequentially, and there is no simultaneous seeing of both. Therefore, the determination of object and subject, which is undeniably guided by its own power, although this is the function of self-cognition, denying its existence is simply denying direct perception. Second, if the appearance is similar, then self-cognition is established; if the appearance is not similar, it is not established either. First, it is possible to determine that this knowledge is the subject of this object, if the object seen by the previous knowledge truly becomes similar, is it then based on the object later seen by another mind other than oneself that one says "this sees that"? If, when remembering the apprehension of blue, one does not remember having the appearance of blue, then similarity is not established. Because this is seen to be similar to blue, the previous apprehension of blue is established as the nature of self-cognition with two aspects. Alternatively, if the knowledge after the cessation of the previous apprehension of blue becomes its illuminator because it is similar to the previous one, then that wisdom is established as self-illuminating or self-cognizing, because there is no other object to be illuminated, but there is illumination. If, even if it is similar, it does not recognize its own object, then how does it recognize the nature of other objects such as blue? If there is no experience of blue etc., and it merely arises similar to blue, then merely being similar and saying that it experiences the object has already been completely refuted earlier. Second, if there is no aspect in the mind, then neither seeing nor similarity is established. If two objects are seen separately and considered similar, if according to the situation of having no aspect, none of the objects that become the object of the mind have been seen before, because simultaneous events cannot help each other, and it is not accepted that the previous cause of non-simultaneous events will produce a similar aspect in the mind, then how can the object and subject be called seeing? How can that wisdom determine that the two are similar? It cannot be determined. Therefore, the Vaibhashikas and others do not believe that similarity also exists in the mind, that is their doctrine.
