In accordance with..., all memories remember that the thing no longer exists, like cloth on a pillar. What exists is remembered, like the flesh and dewlap of a cow. Second, if it is thought that when remembering blue, remembering blue is remembering the object, and not because there is a blue image in consciousness, that is not the case. Just as it is impossible to remember a cow without abandoning flesh and dewlap, consciousness itself is the very thing that has the image of the object. Therefore, it is impossible to remember even a little about knowing something else by abandoning its own nature. How is it that consciousness itself, its own object of experience, such as blue and yellow, is not distinguished by others, and apart from its own nature of mere clarity and awareness, it does not grasp other different characteristics and experience differences? For any consciousness, there will be no such distinction as "this is like this" or "this is not like this." For example, if asked what object is experienced, and the answer is that only the knowable is experienced, and no different images such as a vase are experienced, then for everything experienced, it is impossible to understand the difference between "experiencing a vase and not experiencing cloth," and so on. If it is thought that in one's own continuum, the moments of the aggregation of object, sense, and consciousness arise one after another, and therefore they are different in nature, so they can be distinguished, this is also not reasonable. Even if each moment is different, if different images are not experienced, merely experiencing that many minds arise successively in one's own continuum does not distinguish "experiencing this and that," because no differences are distinguished. For example, if some parts of an object are not clearly manifest or appearing as different, there is no arising of the wisdom that distinguishes them separately. Just as in similar things such as twins, if one is seen and then the other is seen, even though the things are different, the mind thinks that it is seeing the previous one again, and does not know that this is not the previous one, so there is no distinction. Therefore, if the mind itself has no image, it is impossible to distinguish "this mind arose and this mind did not arise" in one's own continuum, but since it is manifestly established that they are distinguished, it is undeniable that the mind is established as having images. Second, to establish self-awareness, self-awareness is established by establishing two methods. The...

Self-cognition is established through signs. First, the root reasoning is briefly explained. The reasons for this are explained in detail. First, as stated, the reasoning that establishes the two aspects of mind also largely establishes self-cognition. The word "largely" indicates that even if the two aspects are actually established, if the two aspects are established, then self-cognition is established incidentally; or, if viewed from the perspective of attachment to the desired meaning, since the apprehended aspect is considered to be the meaning-consciousness that looks outward, even if a mind with two aspects, such as the difference between other-cognition and self-cognition, is established, in reality, the experience is only self-cognition, and other-cognition is impossible, which is established through implication. If one thinks that if the two aspects are established, how can self-cognition be established from this? When the two aspects of grasper and grasped are established in the mind, the grasped, which appears as the blue aspect, is knowledge, but if the grasper becomes a different entity from it, it will become other-cognition and not self-cognition. At that time, if another simultaneous knowledge grasps in a non-aspectual contact manner, then it is the same as grasping external objects without aspects, and there is the fault of being accused. If it is considered to have aspects, then it will fall into the fault of non-contact, etc., and there are many faults. Therefore, it was said earlier: "There, the debate is also the same, that is, self-illumination." As stated, when the appearance of blue, etc., which has become the nature of knowledge itself, exists as its own object, then there is no difference between grasper and grasped, and knowledge itself is merely illuminated in that way, thereby establishing that the external self experiences itself. Second, it is established by examining the object of experience. It is explained by examining the mind of the experiencer. The common other prevents the manifestation of the other. First, the fault of not having self-cognition is stated. The faults, rebuttals, and answers therein are refuted. First, if all knowledge is merely considered to be other-cognition, and self-cognition is not acknowledged, then all experiences of "I have arisen such and such a mind" will be completely impossible. Because a mind like the direct perception of blue does not experience itself when it exists. If it is thought that it is experienced after it has ceased, then how can the later mind, which takes the experienced perception of blue as a real object, experience the previous knowledge, which was the experienced knowledge, that has ceased when the later mind itself exists? Because you do not acknowledge the aspect given by it, and the fact that the times are different is obvious.
