This is never possible, because without a grasping awareness, it is impossible to experience anything, or without something to be experienced, it is impossible to experience grasping. Therefore, such an experience has never been seen. So, the object and awareness are not different entities, but all that is experienced is merely appearing in the form of that awareness. This is establishing the homogeneity. Therefore, when sensory consciousness arises, the appearing object is not a different entity from awareness itself, which is extremely difficult to refute through reasoning, because no other valid means can be found to prove it. Therefore, since the apprehended and the apprehender are not different entities, they are established as the same entity, but in conventional terms, neither one nor different is established. Otherwise, blue and so on will become non-existent. If that is the case, the appearance of shapes and colors will also cease to exist. Know that this is different from the case of negating one and different with the wisdom of ultimate truth. Second, refuting the debate: refuting the arguments for the existence of external objects, and eliminating the harm to the non-existence of external objects. First: There must be an external object that is different from awareness, because the other causes for the arising of sensory consciousness, such as the senses and attention, even if they exist, cannot produce sensory awareness by themselves. Therefore, it is necessary to have an external object as the objective condition that is different from the senses and attention, which can be inferred through inference. If it is not said that sensory consciousness arises in a specific time and place, clearly awakening the appearance of each object from its respective immediate condition, then that may be so. However, since the power of the previous consciousness that awakens the respective habitual tendencies of the appearance of objects enables the arising of sensory consciousness, it cannot be inferred that it arises from the power of objects. In any case, the object that clearly appears at the time of the arising of sensory consciousness is established by its own power as impossible to be different from awareness. Moreover, since its cause can also function through the immediate condition, it cannot be inferred that the power of the external object has been established. Therefore, know that asserting mind-only is the only valid means. Second, divided into: refuting the debate of not conforming to cause and effect, and not conforming to effect as cause. First, divided into: presenting the debate and its answer. First: Just as a seed produces a sprout and smoke produces fire, for external objects...

Since it is only dependent origination, if there is no external object, then the seed itself is the agent of the sprout, and the smoke exists as the knower of fire, wouldn't that become unreasonable? Second, the answer: Because there is no external object, it is not unreasonable to establish cause and effect. If what appears as cause and what appears as effect, even if it is not established as an external object, the knowledge arising from the firm habit, appearing as the nature of cause and effect, etc., relies on the mind that appears in such a definite and separate way, if one understands that these are causes and these are effects, then what contradictions would there be? The appearance of cause and effect, no matter how it appears, even if it is a mental appearance, but the appearance as cause and effect, etc., does not disappear. Because even if it is established as an external object, there is no appearance that is superior to that, just like a single rain that the Nagas send down, for the beings of gods, humans, and evil destinies, there are different appearances for each, but just like their respective appearances, the actions of cause and effect are reasonable. Therefore, seeing that this effect arises from this cause is also established from the appearance of how one sees it, and one cannot abandon that appearance to establish an independent cause and effect of self-power of things. Just like the sun appears hot, but appears cool to the pretas, then it is established as the cause of producing those cold sensations. Similarly, because the appearances of each being are different, from their respective appearances, the actions of cause and effect are undeniably established, just like there is no need to establish an external object. Second, the debate and its answer. First, according to the view that does not acknowledge external objects, like this, some people clearly see smoke, which is not produced by external fire, but only arises from internal habits, therefore, one cannot know the current external fire from the effect of smoke. Even if one accepts that what appears as fire is the cause of what appears as smoke, but from which sign of smoke can one definitely know that fire? Because the appearance of fire has not been established before this, because the effect is before and the cause is after. If the clearly appearing smoke is the cause of the later appearance of fire, then it will not become a sign of the effect, only the cause will be mistaken for the effect, therefore, such a sign of the effect is unreasonable, is it?
