If it is said that the object of memory is a generality and not the aspect of one's own consciousness, then in remembering the past, blue and other colors and shapes appear as distinct. Therefore, the school that believes that it does not possess the various qualities such as color, the consciousness of remembering the past does not appear as the meaning of the object to be grasped. Furthermore, is that school impermanent or permanent? If it is said to be impermanent, then it will not become a school that follows all the appearances of different times and places, because it arises from a cause and perishes in that place and time. If it is said to be permanent, then how can it be the cause of generating consciousness? Because the permanent is empty of acting sequentially and simultaneously, this has been proven many times. Second, if it is said that the object of past memory is the non-associated compositional dharma called name and characteristic, then when speaking of name etc., the speaker and "etc." have already been refuted earlier. Third, in three parts: Establishing that the object to be grasped is not self-characterized. Establishing that the aspect is not other than consciousness. First, in two parts: Establishing the entity and the aspect experienced from it. First, the way in which memory holds onto past events is not because external objects exist as objective conditions or are close to them, because it does not rely on external objects, but is only related to internal desires. Whenever one makes an effort to focus on past events, it appears as such at that moment. Therefore, the consciousness of the objective condition of the object does not have the ability to help it, because it does not change with the existence or non-existence of the object. Therefore, it does not focus on external objects. Second, even if it is allowed that past memory is a conceptualization with aspects, if the sense consciousness that grasped the self-characteristics of form etc. earlier was non-conceptual and without aspects, then this kind of consciousness that holds onto unclear past events is the memory of the past. Moreover, it arises from previously experiencing the self-characteristic. If the sense consciousness that previously grasped the self-characteristic was also empty of the aspect of the object or had no aspect, then how can the memory of the individual who now remembers past events have the aspect of the object? Because you believe that consciousness cannot experience its own aspect from experiencing the object. Remembering past events is also not an object other than consciousness itself, and this experience is undeniably present, so it should also have been earlier

If there is no experience, then it is impossible to remember an object. Because at the time of remembrance, the previous object of apprehension no longer exists, and it is not the case that the mind of remembrance arises solely from the power of the object itself. Therefore, it is precisely because of the previous object that the mind of remembrance with its appearance can now arise. Similarly, the root consciousness that previously experienced the self-character should also become a consciousness with appearance. If it is thought that the appearance of remembrance arises from the power of the object of apprehension that was previously seen, that is, it is merely remembering the object that was previously experienced, that is not correct. If what is remembered is not the appearance of consciousness, but the bare self-nature of the object itself, then since it appears from the power of the previous self-character, it should appear as clearly as before. However, the object of appearance in remembrance lacks the clear appearance of the self-character, so it cannot be produced from the self-character. If it is thought that since the self-character has disappeared, how could it be seen clearly? Since it has disappeared, there is no shape or color, etc., so how could it appear as a clear color and shape? Therefore, apart from the appearance of the mind, it is impossible to say without appearance, "This is another object." Therefore, both experiencing an object and remembering an object are experiencing and remembering appearances, and it is impossible to experience and remember an object in its bareness. At the time of experience, because there is an object, doubt can be allowed, but at the time of remembrance, since the object does not exist, how can it be remembered in its bareness? If the appearance at the time of remembrance is not the mind, but the object appears in its bareness, then the object will not disappear. If, after analysis, the object is unreasonable, but if, without analysis, one merely thinks of remembering the object, worldly conventions can be established. So what is the use of conducting detailed analysis? If even the analysis of what the object is is not necessary, then the analysis of external objects is also unnecessary, and most of the contents of the scriptures, such as the three causes and subtle impermanence, etc., also do not need to be analyzed. Second, to establish that appearance is not something other than consciousness, there is the actual fault and the successive refutation of answers. First, if the appearance of the object that appears as the object of consciousness is substantially different from the mind of remembrance itself, and the object produces these consciousnesses, then other capable people should also realize it like the rememberer, because this is the object of apprehension that can produce consciousness, when it appears itself
