It is a name or a designation. Thus, the difference between a real name and a designation is not based on the authority of the entity of the thing, but rather because a person has already agreed upon a sign to express their intention, and it is called a real name and a designation merely because it is known to be so agreed upon by others. Therefore, without relying on the difference of things, but using it with the intention of expression, that is, giving the sound of non-existence to an existing thing, and combining the sound of existence to a non-existent thing. For example, to a thing that does not have great power, one says "does not exist," or even if it has no meaning, one gives the real name "chief" to the author of all changes, and thinking of it as such, just as it is, one gives the name "chief" and "author," etc., or the same designation, to a person who is able to accomplish many things. For example, even if one has a son, but does not have the ability to conquer enemies, one says "no son," and similarly, if one does not have great wealth, one says "no wealth," etc., combining a negative sound to inferior things. Even if there is no chief, etc., but after naming it through such discrimination, it becomes a designation by agreeing upon it in that way through discrimination. Therefore, the difference between a real name and a designation is distinguished merely by the way it is expressed through signs. Third, for the case of being the same as meaningless, it is the real and the refutation of its answer. First, for example, for a broken vase and an unborn vase, from the sound of expressing it, what kind of clinging mind appears, similarly, for an unbroken, currently existing vase, there is no difference when measured by sound and mind. Whether one measures the self-characteristic of a thing as existing or not, in the appearing realm of discrimination, there is no difference such as clarity or unclearness. Therefore, it is merely the appearance of one's own discrimination, and not something that is given form by the object. Unlike the respective consciousnesses of the ears and eyes, etc., whose object of grasping is the existence of self-characteristics, those appearances of discrimination that have no difference are not like those things that appear unclearly. Second, no matter which vase of the three times is targeted, merely grasping those universally existing things as the object of grasping, therefore, for the two minds of universal grasping of things that exist and do not exist now, the appearing realm is the same, if one says so, then merely the universally existing thing is grasped by the universal mind, it has already been refuted by "it is not the same, not clear," etc. Fourth, because it is universality itself, it is real.

Furthermore, to establish (the thesis): How can those that have the nature of appearance and have differences from each other become the nature of one without difference? Because things that have differences have abandoned non-difference and exist. Even if it is thought that in one appearance, there are also differences in state, and the natures follow each other, what contradiction is there between having the nature of non-difference? However, since having difference and not having difference exist by abandoning each other, how can these two contradictory things become one thing? It cannot become. If it is said that it is impossible for both having difference and not having difference to exist in the nature of appearance itself, but the object of the commonality that they have in common exists outside of those appearances, and through it, it is recognized that they are the same. Then, just as there are different juniper trees in a house, that commonality that exists in different things has no connection with appearance. Because on the unique, unrelated thing, even if it arises, it is as if it did not arise, which has been refuted above, so saying that it is the commonality of those appearances has no connection. If it is said that you also think that "reverse" also has commonality, it is not the same. Because the non-real "reverse" does not need to exist in the form of being both one and other than appearance, so it cannot be refuted by that kind of observation. Because relying on "reverse", consciousness will falsely establish on a common basis, so there is a connection between them. Therefore, if you observe this commonality that is the same and follows in all appearances, then it is only a false establishment made by consciousness, and it does not have the characteristics of a real thing itself, because it appears like a common commonality. Fifth, it is unreasonable as a result: If "commonality" is a real thing, then is it a result produced from a cause, or is it not? If it exists as a result, then because it is produced from different causes in an instant, it is not unique, and it must perish with each instant, but you do not think so, because you think that commonality is unique and constant. Furthermore, if it is a result, then it is certain to perish, because perishing is related to the existence of the real thing itself and the subsequent connection, so it is impossible for a result produced from a cause to have a constant nature. If it is said that kinds are not results, then therefore it is not related to the things of appearance, and because it is not produced from a cause, it will become non-real. Sixth,
