This mere fact is proven to be understandable. Moreover, this is only in terms of convention, not ultimately. Not only that, but the so-called "universal" ultimately ends up being the exclusion of others. If analyzed carefully, if the appearance grasped by conceptual thought does not exist in the external object, then how can it rely on or be related to the external object? In reality, there is no connection whatsoever. If we examine the sound that applies equally to all clear things or accompanies all clear things, then what is it that accompanies all the specific expressibles? Some people think that it is the so-called "universal," but that is impossible. In reality, all clear things rely on the fact that they exist as similar entities to each other, and therefore, a general consciousness arises that perceives their result as being of the same kind, which is merely proven to be the appearance of the object of conceptual thought. Such an appearance of consciousness is a mere illusion that arises because of seeing and becoming accustomed to the entities of the external object, and the power of this habit increases. In reality, there is no accompaniment whatsoever for all clear things, because it is not different from one's own inner consciousness, so it will not accompany other things. Having examined and analyzed in this way, if we distinguish between appearance and concept, then neither the universal nor the self-characterized entity of the expressible can be established. Second, regarding the self-characterized object, The object of conceptual thought that is falsely imputed to things, is known through cognition, because it is cognized in the form of the thing itself being distinguished from all other things, so it is also a repetitive process, one proven by the other, and appearance and concept are mixed in consciousness. In this case, when examining what the meaning of sound or what is expressed by sound is, if it is said that it is the object of appearance of conceptual thought, then there is no contradiction with the statement that "the exclusion of others is the expressible." Any consciousness that grasps the universal, which is definitely an illusion created by sound, merely because it appears to be different from all other things, seems to be accompanying on the level of the external object. Because being distinguished from others is the nature of each thing, it is accompanying. Therefore, all the key points such as the expressible and the accompanying ultimately end up being the exclusion of others of the object, and they are connected through the exclusion of others of consciousness, so hearing is what excludes others in this way. Therefore, when seeing the self-character and saying "this name is this" to make a designation, it is also so.

Because it is possible to see, know, or obtain the fruit or need of oneself, it is to indicate for that purpose. Just as it is shown, the meaning is related to the name, therefore, excluding others by excluding non-self is related to sound, but not to self-character. Because after that, it is actually impossible to perform actions such as knowing, because it will disappear in an instant, so it is not related to the name. The named thing is also related to that kind of meaning afterwards, and it is also possible to know and use that meaning from the name. Therefore, when naming something based on something, if it has not been seen that the name is used for other categories, it is necessary to rely on the inapplicable aspect, that is, it is necessary to obtain its inapplicable aspect. And, seeing the name on some objects of the same kind as oneself, it is necessary to rely on that same kind, that is, relying on its applicability. In short, the applicability and inapplicability of the name depend on the two aspects of similar and dissimilar. Because it is not necessary to show these dependencies separately, it is established simultaneously that it applies to the similar and does not apply to the dissimilar. This is only because the exclusion of others of that object is related to the sound, and applying to some and not applying to some cannot be related to the self-character of the object. If naming with one self-character of the bottle, then would it be thought that other cows, etc. that are not this would also become bottles? The application to the inconsistent aspect cannot be prevented either. Or, just saying that seeing this is the bottle, then the name cannot naturally apply to other bottles. Because no one can show all such consistent aspects, and show all inconsistent aspects, and then say that it does not apply to this, so the sound cannot be related to the self-character. Even if the self-character is indicated, because the named object is only established as excluding others, therefore, it can be seen through reasoning that the reason why applicability and inapplicability are established simultaneously without seeing the two aspects is like this. Three, summary of meaning. Because of what was said above, the "having that" which is different from the kind and merit, etc., does not exist on the meaning, because it does not appear as different in meaning. Pages 401 to 500.
