No. At that time, since the self-characteristic of fire is not seen, there is no meaning of direct perception. It can be determined that it is smoke related to sandalwood fire, but if the cause is not seen, only fire can be inferred, and it cannot be determined to be sandalwood fire. At that time, if it is thought that the previous fire still exists, it is just a thought that confuses the past and the future. Inferring that the previous fire is also here from signs such as smoke, because the sign is not confused with just fire, although it is a result sign, it is a mistake to think that the previous one is this one. It is impossible to see again what was previously seen directly. Because the self-characteristic is momentary, although direct perception measures the self-characteristic of the object seen at any time, it is a mistake of conceptual thought to hold the past and the future as one. Thus, by analyzing, the objects of the two valid cognitions exist without being mixed. The object of direct perception is always only the self-characteristic, and the object of inference is always only the universal characteristic. Even if inference is not a valid cognition, all the objects of other minds that are not direct perception are only universal characteristics, so when the distinction between conceptual and non-conceptual is made, it becomes the third collection of objects of valid cognition. And it is possible to understand that multiple valid cognitions do not repeatedly know a single object. Second, the way to connect the previous and subsequent other things in the mind is to cling to "it is the previous one." Wise scholars know that what was seen before is just a memory. Just because of what was seen before, or seeing other things similar to it, the previous experience is just a memory. Even so, similar things are mistaken for one, and it is falsely asserted that "the previous one is this one." Third, if it is said that the later mind sometimes relies on signs, so it is not just a memory. Because in memory, even without signs, previous experiences can be remembered, just like inferring from the smoke of sandalwood fire in a room, that mind arises from seeing the sign, and what was seen before becomes a sign for later recognition, so it is a valid cognition. That is not right, because that kind of sign would mistakenly think that the previous one exists now. It is like inferring this year's fire from last year's smoke, or inferring this year's fire from seeing last year's smoke. Because seeing signs or similar forms awakens previous experiences, it is a condition for memory.

It will not become a memory either. Second, regarding the nature of direct perception itself. Explaining direct perception as प्रमाण (pramāṇa, valid cognition) itself, explaining the opposite, which is seemingly direct perception. First, explaining the characteristics of direct perception. Explaining the differences of the four bases. First, establishing the complete exclusion of conceptual thought, negating the divisions of conceptual thought. First, establishing the proponent's own system of establishing the absence of conceptual thought, negating the assertions of others who explain it. First, the way direct perception is established through inference. First, from the प्रमाण (pramāṇa, valid cognition) Sutra: "That which is free from conceptual thought, which combines name, genus, etc., is direct perception." And, "The mind, too, with objects and attachments, etc., self-awareness is without conceptual thought." As the meaning of these and other statements, in order to negate the mistaken conceptualizations about the nature of direct perception प्रमाण (pramāṇa, valid cognition), first, to establish that all direct perceptions are free from conceptual thought. Generally, there are three types of conceptual thought: the conceptual thought of the essence itself is present in all ज्ञान (jñāna, knowledge), it is merely conceptualizing and knowing the object. The conceptual thought of analysis is of a coarse nature, and is absent from the mind up to the विशेष (viśeṣa, distinction) of the first dhyāna (meditative absorption). Here, what is to be abandoned is the third, the conceptual thought that can mix sound and meaning. That is, if a scholar who is not caught in the trap of bad tenets calms his mind and examines it, then the mind of direct perception, free from conceptual thought, will be established by the direct perception of self-awareness itself, without relying on तर्क (tarka, reasoning). For example, the conceptual thought or the mind with conceptual thought of all beings is dependent on names, that is, it can be mixed with names. When one is proficient in शब्द (śabda, sound) and grasps the mixing of name and meaning, the conceptual mind arises merely from the power of शब्द (śabda, sound), and this is to be known by each individual, that is, it is established by अनुभव (anubhava, experience). When the mind is withdrawn from all aspects of objects, and no conceptual mind arises, and the nature of inner ज्ञान (jñāna, knowledge) remains unwavering, even if the movement of conceptual thought ceases, the seeing of forms by the eye does not cease, and that clear mind is the mind born from the senses. Therefore, if the sense ज्ञान (jñāna, knowledge) is accompanied by the conceptual thought of the essence itself, then when the sound ज्ञान (jñāna, knowledge) does not arise, the sense ज्ञान (jñāna, knowledge) should also cease, but even without conceptual thought, the sense ज्ञान (jñāna, knowledge) does not cease, and this is established by one's own अनुभव (anubhava, experience). Moreover, in speech such as explanation, conceptual thought arises continuously.
