According to the view of..., showing differences by means of six words, etc., is not because the essence of things is different. Because all such sounds have different bases of reversal, sounds and consciousness will not become multiple, and things will not become multiple either. Second, refuting that repeated cognition is valid. There are three types: refutation, establishment, and rebuttal. First, refuting the entity and dispelling faults. First. In the "Pramana Sutra" it says: Repeated cognition is also not, like endless transformation of memory and so on. Thus, many pramanas negate repeatedly knowing one thing or recognition as valid, because all self-characteristics are momentary, each different from the other, so it is impossible to repeatedly know the same special self-characteristic by means of direct perception or inference. If it is allowed that there is no repeated cognition on the self-characteristic, but the permanent general dharma existing on the self-characteristic is repeatedly known through the self-characteristic, that is not correct, because apart from the differences, there is no general dharma that can be seen by the independent consciousness, and if the former and latter both see one general dharma, because it is a consciousness of one object, so the manner of grasping, even if there is no difference, because the later grasping is the same as the previous one. It is also not the object of the previous self-characteristic or difference, if it is, it cannot have the slightest difference from the previously seen consciousness. Therefore, it is not grasping the general permanent self-characteristic, but grasping the object of discrimination of the former and latter general characteristics. Second, if what was previously seen directly, such as a person, is a metaphor in the later case, because one has already seen haritaki before, and when one sees it later, one has already recognized it as the previous haritaki, using this as a metaphor, so it is not merely grasping the general dharma, but recognizing it again by the power of the previous pramana, if the previous pramana has already recognized it, and has not forgotten it, existing in memory as a metaphor, because seeing the later one, it is necessarily self-accomplished, what does another new pramana of cognition do? Because it is considered to be the same entity as the one previously determined. If what was previously seen is forgotten in the meantime, so the previous function has not diminished

If there is no fault, then whatever is not in memory, and what is forgotten, precisely because of that, it is not an example of establishing that, because what does not arise in the mind does not become a branch of knowing other things. If it is said that even if forgotten in between, when seen later, because the previous thing has been established by valid cognition, therefore multiple previous and subsequent valid cognitions also repeatedly know the same self-characteristic, then, to attribute to another thing that is not the previous one as the previous one, this is inversion, therefore what is established by that mind is not valid cognition, but is mistaken. If it is said that the objects seen before and after are the same, without difference, so the mind that recognizes "the previous one is this" is not mistaken, then, both direct perception and the other, namely inference, both repeatedly know only the same distinct self-characteristic, because these two are the same without difference in object, so if either one is established, both are established, and there is no need for other valid cognitions, because the object has already been known. If knowing is also needed, then valid cognition will become endless. Or, direct perception is combined with what was seen previously and the other seen later. Therefore, for what has already been established by the previous direct perception, there is no need for the later one to newly realize, just as a blue lotus has already been established, there is no need to recognize it as blue again; and like, having recognized that there is fire, there is no need to recognize a second time. Therefore, if it is admitted that the objects recognized by previous and subsequent direct perception are the same, then the later valid cognition can only be a decisive cognition, and if in the middle, the function of the previous decision disappears and is forgotten, then the later one becomes valid cognition. If forgotten, it is also impossible to recognize the previous one, and if not forgotten, then for the same object, the later valid cognition is meaningless. In our own system, it is impossible for all objects of direct perception to be the same, therefore all non-erroneous direct perceptions are valid cognition for that self-characteristic, and all definite minds that have already seen, such as thinking "the previous one is this" or "this is like this," are only conceptual thoughts. Do not confuse with other views. Therefore, from seeing the fire of sandalwood, later from the sign of smoke recognizing that the fire is still there now, this is inference. Moreover, because there is a reason that the smoke related to sandalwood is able to establish, therefore it is reasonable to infer that from that.
