It is not established as a reason just by that, because not only bile, but everything that turns into disease causes suffering, thereby generating hatred, so it is not certain to be solely the nature of bile. If one thinks, what contradiction is there if hatred and so on arise from everything? But it does not arise from everything, because the fault of all things equally generating desire and so on has already been stated. Second, there is the main point and the refutation of its answer. First, a cause like phlegm (བད་ཀན་, Devanagari: , Romanization: , Literal meaning: mucus) if it becomes excessively increased, then the result, desire, can only increase in the same way, and cannot decrease. For example, excessive increase of bile causes fever and foul odor in the body, and so on. Even so, when phlegm is excessively increased, desire does not arise due to suffering; when wind is increased, sleep does not occur; when bile is increased, the mind is not clear, and so on, so it becomes contradictory. Therefore, the changes of desire and so on are not from phlegm and so on, but from the touch within the balance or imbalance of the elements, that is, the feeling of pleasure and pain arising with the object to be grasped as the purpose. Second, there is the statement of the former's view and its refutation. First, someone says, when the disease becomes severe and increases, suppressed by the suffering arising from the imbalance of the severity of the faults, even if phlegm and so on increase, desire and so on will not arise. Then, please tell me, what causes desire and so on? The answer is, when the elements are balanced, semen increases, and desire arises from that. Second, there is the actual refutation and the refutation of faults. First, it is not so certain, because even among patients with imbalanced elements, one sees those with desire, and some people do not generate desire even when the elements are balanced, and some others have exhausted semen, bleeding from that path, but one also sees desire arising, which causes harm. Furthermore, if desire arises only from the increase of semen, then for a woman, there is no certainty of semen increase, so for all men with increased semen, there would be no strong desire for the one woman who is particularly attached to in their minds, even so, one also sees particular attachment to one woman, therefore desire does not arise only from semen, but it is proven that it arises from one's own conceptual thoughts. Second, if only the appearance and behavior of that one object are beautiful...

If it is said that beautiful paths and the like are also factors in the arising of desire, that is not the case, because it is not certain for all individuals. Why? Because it is not certain that everyone will be attached in the same way that one person is attached to it. Furthermore, if only beautiful things were a factor in desire, then one should not have desire for anything other than beautiful things. However, attachment also occurs without certainty to one extreme for all things that are considered good or bad, because it is impossible to find anyone who has not become an object of attachment for anyone anywhere. Furthermore, if only beautiful things were a factor in desire, then those who are accustomed to ugly things, and those who have found objects that are even better than that, or those who do not consider that object to have qualities, but who possess semen, should also develop desire. However, since desire does not arise if one does not consider it to have qualities, this is refuted. If it is said that considering that object to have qualities is also a factor in the arising of desire, then all individuals, upon seeing that one person considers something to be beautiful, will also consider it to have qualities in the same way as the former, and will become possessors of the arising of desire. Because the existence of beautiful things in the object and the increase of semen in equal measure are the cause of desire, and if one is attached, one must consider it to have qualities. Therefore, since all individuals are without distinction for those who have the cause of such a mind that considers it to have qualities and is attached. Third, the consequence is that the result is necessarily singular: In whatever circumstance one considers a person to be attached, that is, if he has become attached, then such a person should always remain in that state and never become hateful, because attachment, which desires to take an object, and hatred, which desires to abandon an object, are two things whose essence is extremely dissimilar. It is not possible to think so, because in this state of attachment and hatred, there is no certainty to one extreme, because sometimes one sees a state of hatred, and sometimes one sees various states of attachment. Even if the cause does not change, such as the increase of semen and the harmonious combination, or mainly phlegm, if one sees various states of hatred and attachment in the same object, then how is that from the cause of humors and the like? Because there is no difference in the cause. Thus, it is evident that it arises from the difference in inner thoughts.
