The reason is that those antidotes that exist solely to sever the body cannot be known because they cannot be ascertained by प्रमाण ( ಪ್ರಮಾಣ , pramana), and there is no need for them, because if craving is severed, mere karma and body do not have the power to produce rebirth. It is also impossible to sever only karma and body, because if craving exists, karma and body will arise again, so even if the original ones are severed, it is not beneficial for not taking rebirth. The naked teachers, such as Increaser, say: It is not that we do not know the antidote, the antidote for the exhaustion of karma and craving is asceticism, therefore, we strive in asceticism for the sake of the exhaustion of both karma and craving. However, if one knows the method of exhausting craving as it is, then it is reasonable to rely on it, but it is meaningless to rely on the toil of asceticism for the sake of exhausting karma, because no matter how much one strives, one cannot exhaust craving, and if craving is not exhausted, then the exhaustion of karma is impossible. If it is said that craving arises from the power of karma, so if karma is exhausted, it will also be exhausted. Then, it is impossible to ascertain that asceticism exhausts all karma, because one directly sees various fruits of good and bad, pleasure and pain. From this, it can be inferred that their cause, karma, also has different powers, therefore, it is established that one thing, such as the affliction or suffering of asceticism like shaving hair and not eating, does not exhaust all the karma that will experience various fruits. Therefore, some forms of the suffering of asceticism can cause the fruit of karma that produces experiences similar to it to become smaller or lighter in ripening, but it does not make the fruit of karma that is of a different kind from the experience of asceticism not be experienced. Second, if the power of asceticism makes the power of other karmas also mix with its own object of experience, therefore, relying on asceticism can exhaust all previous karmas. If asceticism itself has the power to mix all karmas into one and exhaust them, then does it mix with the experience of suffering? Or does it mix with the form of experiencing pleasure? If it is the former, then if all karmas are mixed into one karma and exhausted, then can all karmas be abandoned by doing only a part of the suffering or affliction like plucking body hair? If it is the latter, then without any suffering or affliction of asceticism, all karmas

will be abandoned. If it is said that without afflictions there is no asceticism, therefore it is meaningless to abandon karma with asceticism, then, is the suffering of asceticism an affliction or suffering like ordinary people experience suffering? If it is thought that asceticism is different from afflictions or suffering that have become the result of karma, because it arises according to desire, then, this contradicts what is said that without afflictions there is no asceticism, and there will also be happy asceticism, and it will become the fault of completely abandoning without afflictions. If it is said that it is itself of the nature of affliction or suffering, then, just as ordinary people experience suffering due to karma, the suffering of asceticism is the result of past karma, therefore, this asceticism will not mix with the power different from past karma, nor will it become the power of exhaustion, etc., because it is only the self-fruit produced from one karma, just as wheat sprouts do not mix with the power of different seeds such as rice. In short, whether asceticism is happiness or suffering, in the sect that says everything arises from karma, it cannot transcend the fruit of past karma, and it can only exhaust a part of the past fruit, but cannot exhaust all of it. This is different from fasting, etc. in our own tradition of the Net of Meaning, because they do not think that all karma will be exhausted by this. Even experiencing small suffering can purify the suffering of hell, etc., because by thinking in a special way, the suffering to be experienced in the future is prevented, and all methods such as confessing sins are the same as this, not only by the power of asceticism such as not eating. Therefore, the mind is the most important, and the asceticism of the body itself is not the most important. The other party says: You have admitted that you cannot abandon karma, but you also admit that you abandon karma by abandoning craving, which is contradictory. We do not admit that there is no way to not experience the results of karma that has already been created, but we prevent the antidote that exhausts all karma that does not depend on abandoning craving from existing. If it is said that abandoning craving can abandon karma, it is also because the fault that is considered the cause of future rebirth is destroyed, therefore, the Buddha yogi who has realized selflessness
