Even if there is no attachment upon seeing, when it becomes a near cause of seeing it as a part of future needs, attachment arises again even to what was previously discarded. Just as seeing women who have left before, attachment arises later; and like piles of manure and other things that are discarded, when they are seen as useful for fields, etc., they are taken back again. The second case is the inference that even attachment is without fault: If there is a "self," then attachment to it should not be faulty either, because the mind and meaning are in agreement. Since the "self" is faultless, then attachment to the faultless "self" is also faultless, because regarding the faultless as a faultless quality is due to the power of things themselves. If so, then the "mine-ness" that accomplishes the benefit of that faultless "self" is also faultless, because it merely exists naturally in accomplishing the benefit of the faultless "self," like the trident of Ishvara. If these are established as faultless, then if what is called "sentient beings" is nothing other than the entity of "self" and "mine-ness," then now, to what object will there be attachment and separation? Because no object that should not be attached to can be pointed out. If it is said that attachment to "self" and "mine-ness" is faulty because it serves as the basis for binding in samsara, then that fault is also the same for the "self," because attachment focused on that "self" serves as the basis for the arising of both attachments, directly and indirectly. Thus, even if the "self" also has the same faults as attachment to an object, there is no attachment and separation from it. Since there is no attachment and separation, then now, to what object can that person have attachment and separation? Even if that person wants attachment and separation, the "self" will not allow it in the slightest, just as a miserly husband does not like to let go of his wife. The third case is: If attachment to any object, arising from seeing its qualities, disappears upon seeing its faults, then this is not the case for one's own senses, etc. Because even children and animals, who do not have the discernment of whether something is virtuous or not, are seen to have attachment to their own senses, etc. And even though the senses such as eyes with cataracts or blindness are faulty, there is still attachment to one's own senses, etc., for the consciousness within them. And seeing that others have clear eyes and beautiful bodies

Even if one knows that land and the like possess merits, it is because one does not cling to other faculties that are not part of one's own continuum, and one does not cling to one's own faculties and limbs, etc., that have passed away in the past. The word "etc." indicates that even now, one does not cling to those parts of oneself that have fallen off from the body, such as hair, nails, limbs, etc. For the same reason, the cause of the thought of "mine" is not seeing merits, therefore, even if one sees faults that are not merits, one will not abandon the thought of "mine." Furthermore, not only that, but even if one truly sees faults, one will not abandon it, because one clings to falsely establishing merits that do not exist in the thought of "mine" as aids to one's own happiness, so even then, what is seen will not be reversed. Therefore, how can cultivating the self and suffering, etc., that do not harm the view of self, harm the clinging to "mine"? It is impossible to harm it. Second, not being free from attachment by knowing it as other: The Samkhyas say that because of seeing merits, one clings to "mine," and not to samsara, the transformations such as form that arise from the external principle. The so-called "intellect" or "great," like the two sides of a mirror, connects the inside and outside, and from the confusion, like the self, the knower, and the object being mixed together, one clings to "my happiness," "my form," etc., and attachment arises. If one knows that those are other, and thereby becomes free from attachment to "mine," then the self, the knower, existing alone is liberation. But that is not so, because one wants to obtain faculties of gods, etc., that are more excellent than the present eyes, etc., and seeks such faculties for other purposes, and because one is a person who has the thought of knowing the new arising and destruction of faculties and limbs, etc., so even ordinary people know that the self is other than the faculties, etc. Just as a palace relies on a mountain, one clings to the self as being permanent, and seeks to obtain other faculties, but never thinks of obtaining another self. If that were the case, everything should be naturally free from attachment, but because no ordinary person is free from attachment, therefore, even if one sees the self and "mine" as one, one will not cling to "mine," because the self
