Thinking that it is "mine," if one knows that people and places are different, just as saying that the thought of "own" will not arise, merely knowing that I and Dharma are different will not give rise to the thought of "own," but it arises because of clinging to me as a factor of happiness, so even if there is no relationship such as gathering, as long as there is clinging to me, no matter what thing, one thinks it is beneficial to me, which exists in everyone, if one does not abandon self-clinging, one cannot abandon the thought of "mine." Second, even if one meditates on suffering, one cannot abandon the thought of "mine," which is explained. Either it is not suffering, or even if it is suffering, it cannot be seen, even if seen, one cannot abandon the thought of "mine." First, if one meditates on what is clung to as suffering, like a finger caught by a snake, meditating on it as suffering, then when one is accustomed to it, one will not have the thought of "own" even for the senses, etc., is that so? It is absolutely certain that those "own" things do not bring suffering to me, but are beneficial to me, so one will also accept it. If "own" things may bring some happiness, but that is not the method of liberation, most of them are like poisonous food, which will eventually bring suffering, so everything should be regarded as suffering, is that so? The meditator of suffering who has not abandoned self-clinging, because of clinging to the special and faultless happiness that is beneficial to me, even if one temporarily abandons the inferior "mine" that is contrary to the special happiness, it cannot be called abandoning clinging, because one is greedy for the special happiness, so one slightly abandons the happiness that is inferior to it, just as a person who gets delicious food abandons inferior food, but that is not a permanent severance of greed for food. If one has not obtained the special "my" happiness, or has not thought, or cannot think properly, even if there are faults, because of clinging to me, sometimes one thinks that "I" is a factor of happiness, just as one finds "my" things, one will pursue or accept it, just as when one is very hungry, one will eat even poisonous food, or knowing that one will get sick, one will drink cold water when one is thirsty, or a woman...

If good women are not found, then there are bad women; and if even bad women are not found, then it is like seeing animals engaging in desire. Therefore, from the perspective of being a basis for happiness, those with self-grasping will never be separated from attachment to "mine." Secondly, there are two points: it is not appropriate to abandon the cause of attachment, and attachment is also without fault. First, the cause of attachment, the self, is not abandoned. Therefore, there is no point in understanding suffering. First, having refuted and destroyed the cause of attachment, the self, one will also not abandon the attachment of the object, because the object is without fault. If attachment exists in this way, then even if it is obscured by attachment and becomes a basis for suffering, one will not be able to see only suffering, and even if one sees it, one will not be able to abandon it. The reason for this is: those who claim to have a self believe that the self is the basis for bondage, liberation, experience, etc., and they will never abandon it. No matter how accustomed they are to suffering, etc., how could they wish for the self that they are attached to to be destroyed? They simply do not wish for it. Therefore, even at the time of liberation, if the self still exists as before, then how could attachment to the self disappear at that time? If there is attachment to the self, how could one abandon "mine"? This is not reasonable. If one thinks that the self at the time of liberation is contrary to the experience of pleasure and pain, etc., and the concepts of permanence and impermanence, etc., and the basis of all the qualities of wisdom and liberation, etc., then how can one think that it is the self that gives rise to your attachment? That is impossible, because the self that cannot be abandoned by the nature of attachment or desire is not like that. Because they think that it is the object to which the concepts of experiencing the bliss of liberation, permanence, and oneness, etc., apply, and the possessor of qualities such as not returning to samsara. Therefore, if there is no experience, etc., then the meaning of establishing the self by desire will all be wasted. Therefore, if it is certain that there is no experience, etc., then it is like the son of a barren woman, non-existent, and there is no difference in meaning, so it will become selflessness. Therefore, just as one cannot abandon burning without setting fire, one cannot abandon attachment to the self without abandoning the self. In any case, as long as the object-possessing self-grasping exists, then during the time that oneself exists, attachment to that self will become firm.
