Is it possible to reverse it just by seeing? Inner attachment cannot be removed by any external means, like pulling out a thorn. Furthermore, attachment to an object is not intentionally generated because one recognizes that oneself possesses qualities, but because one sees the qualities of the object of attachment, the mind of attachment inevitably arises. For example, even if one knows that alcohol does not possess qualities, one develops attachment to alcohol because one sees the taste of alcohol, etc., as qualities. Therefore, since the causes for the arising of self-attachment are complete and without deficiency, and the self itself exists as the very cause for generating attachment, how can the mind of the object that arises from that cause be reversed? It cannot be reversed. Therefore, merely because objects such as women exist in a visible place, it is not certain that attachment, etc., will arise. But just as the mind of seeing the object arises, merely by the existence of the self, there will be attachment to it, and once attached to the self, it is impossible not to generate the thought of "mine." Second, if someone asks, seeing which faults of self-attachment will one abandon it? If one says that self-attachment is the basis of all suffering, so it is faulty. Even so, one cannot abandon attachment to self-attachment because one sees that self-attachment belongs to oneself, is the object of one's existence, just as one cannot abandon oneself. If one says that without self-attachment, the self alone is not the cause of suffering, Then, self-attachment is also the same as that; you would not consider self-attachment alone without a self to be the cause of suffering. According to your view, since there is no self, you do not acknowledge that self-attachment alone generates suffering, or according to your view, if there is no self, even if there is self-attachment, there is no one to experience suffering, so self-attachment alone does not become the basis of suffering. Or, if faults arise from clinging to the self, then both the object and the subject are the basis of faults. If it does not become the object of the mind, then the object does not generate faults, and if there is no subject alone separate from the object, that is also impossible, therefore, there is no fault in that either. Thus, since both the object and the subject are without fault, therefore, one will not abandon attachment to either of them. Second, merely knowing suffering does not abandon attachment.

Explanation of the meaning of contemplating suffering. Firstly, merely knowing it is suffering does not lead to abandonment. Because it does not abandon the thought of "I." Firstly, if, like cutting off a finger or other limb bitten by a poisonous snake before the poison spreads, even though it is one's own limb, similarly, if all attachment to "I" and "mine" is contemplated as the nature of suffering, will attachment to it be abandoned? It is not merely knowing that it is suffering that accomplishes this, but because the hope of benefit to "I" has been exhausted and there is fear of harm, the thought of "mine" is destroyed, and only then is it possible to abandon the defective finger, etc. Conversely, if the thought of "mine" is not destroyed, even if it is known to be suffering, it will not be abandoned. For example, how can the thought of "I" be reversed when the senses such as the eyes and hair, etc., are regarded as the very basis for enjoying the attainment of "I's" happiness? It cannot be reversed, so from what cause does non-attachment to "I" and "mine" arise? It is impossible. For example, aversion and non-attachment arise towards hair and teeth, etc., that have fallen from the body. However, attachment arises towards hair, nails, etc., that are connected to the body, which is obvious to everyone. Therefore, due to attachment to "I," the thought of "mine" naturally arises towards what belongs to "I," and even if it is known to be suffering, attachment will not be abandoned. It is not possible to be without connection to "I." According to the Vaisheshika school, mind and limbs, etc., are considered to be connected to "I" through aggregation and possession, etc. Even when this connection, which gives rise to the thought of "mine," is seen as suffering, it remains in its previous state and does not become unconnected. Therefore, even if it is recognized as suffering, attachment to "mine" will not be abandoned. Furthermore, the Vaisheshikas believe that qualities of "I" such as happiness are related to "I" through aggregation that conforms to "I," and that body and senses, etc., are related to aggregation through conjunction or being in a state of conjunction, and that they are mutually related. If the Samkhyas and others believe that the thought of "mine" does not arise merely through connection, but arises through attachment, like the inner Purusha mixing with the external world,
