Refutations of arguments against me and it. First, having explained that the path of contemplating selflessness, when practice reaches the highest level, the mind no longer has clinging to self, etc., and one attains the transformation of abiding in the nature of being without even the slightest fault. Second, refuting the equality of the power of antidotes and afflictions, and that all afflictions cannot be exhausted, and that it is impossible to completely exhaust afflictions, and that even if exhausted, they will relapse. First: Two types: brief indication and detailed explanation. First, if the mind-stream attains a state of transformation free from all defilements, but just as a previously untransformed, faulty mind can give rise to a faultless path, it is still possible for faults to arise again, so liberation is not permanent. If one thinks like that, it is not possible, because a faulty mind has the power to harm the path, but the path does not have the power to harm a faulty mind, therefore, when the path is perfected, it is impossible for faults to arise in the transformed mind-stream. Second, without effort, there is no turning back; even with effort, there is no turning back. First, once manifest, there is no permanent power; even if not manifest, there is no turning back. First, when the mind of selflessness is perfected and manifest, what is the reason why it does not turn back? Consciousness is of the nature of knowing and clarity, and it is the dharma or nature of apprehending objects. Moreover, it apprehends the object as it exists, and the object itself is the cause of the arising of the subject-consciousness, because the apprehended object of non-erroneous consciousness is its own characteristic. The nature or mode of existence of the object and the subject is due to the power of things themselves, so no one can reverse it. Even if the nature is such, due to other causes that confuse the mind, the mind does not conform to the reality of things, but mistakenly thinks of permanence, self, purity, happiness, etc., as inverted views. When one is mistaken in this way, the turning back of confusion or superimposition also depends on the causes of turning back, such as the practice of the path led by a harmful valid cognition, and does not turn back on its own. For example, other causes of confusion, such as suspecting the presence of a snake, and the object of the way a rope is coiled, and thick darkness.

Due to conditions such as roughness, even if it is not on the object, the conceptual consciousness apprehends the rope as a snake. Just as the thought that there is a snake does not revert until the conditions that dispel the appearance, etc., arise. These mistaken minds do not revert by relying on conditions, but enter by the power of non-reality, so they are subject to harm by valid cognition, are adventitious, i.e., can be separated from the mind, so they are unstable. For example, the thought of a snake arising on a rope can be abandoned. Therefore, the nature or essence of the mind is not born with inherent delusion, so that it cannot be separated from delusion, but when it arises as the nature of the antidote consciousness, it cannot be separated from it, so the essence is luminous, free from the darkness of inversion, i.e., the defilements of inverted views such as self-view are not established on it by their own nature, so they are adventitious. Therefore, even when examining during the time of hearing and thinking, inverted phenomena do not have the ability to harm the correct side, because the correct consciousness enters unerringly by the power of how things exist, so it is called entering by the power of things, just as when recognizing a rope as a rope, the apprehension of a snake will not revert again. Therefore, even before the transformation, inverted phenomena do not have the ability to harm the correct consciousness, let alone the fact that these later have no ability at all on the consciousness that has transformed into the nature or essence of the antidote correct consciousness? Secondly, since the ultimate transformation has not been attained, in the continuum where the habits have not been exhausted, sometimes there is a slight ability in the way that self-grasping, etc., manifest, but because of directly seeing selflessness, for the mistaken clinging, since it is the object of the mind continuum that has the essence of being able to generate a valid cognition that harms it, therefore, for it, the inverted consciousness does not have the ability to exist for a long time, because the continuum is pervaded by the correct view, just as a small fire burning on the ground does not last long. Second, to make it revert by effort, that is, if one sees a fault of defect in the antidote or a fault of harm by reasoning, it may revert by effort, but there are none of these on this, that is, any fault of defect.
