Since eye consciousness alone cannot arise, it can be inferred that for eye consciousness, incomplete causes, such as form, are also its causes. However, such incompleteness does not exist in permanent phenomena, because they are constant. Therefore, if this does not exist, what will not arise? If this exists, what will arise? Because concomitance and contra-concomitance are definite, all kinds of reasoning cannot be established. Second, regarding the origin: establishing that suffering has a cause, and identifying that cause. First, because it is not constant but occasional, it is established that this suffering itself has a cause. If it arises without a cause, then since its arising does not depend on other causes, it will either always exist or always not exist, which is unreasonable. Second, refuting other unreasonable views, establishing one's own tenet through reasoning. First, refuting the view that there is no cause, refuting the view that self and others are other causes. First, eliminating the dispute that contradicts direct perception. First, some people, namely the Lokayata (Carvaka) proponents, would say: Just as the sharpness and roundness of thorns and beans, etc., are not made sharp or round by anyone, but arise by their own nature, so these sufferings should also arise without a cause. This is unreasonable, because even when a phenomenon that has previously arisen exists, a phenomenon will arise after it, or if a phenomenon changes, a phenomenon will also change or transform accordingly. Through this way of concomitance and contra-concomitance, it is commonly said in the world that the former is the cause of the latter. And this cause, which is established by concomitance and contra-concomitance, also exists for thorns, etc., because if there is their respective seed, they will arise, and if there is not, they will not arise. So how can they be without a cause? To say such a thing is a sign of extreme foolishness. Second, if the definition of cause is like that, then if there is no touch, there is no form, and if there is touch, there is also form, so the tangible should also become the cause of eye consciousness. Answer: The nature of touch is that if there is no form, it will not arise, therefore it is the cause of form.

It is desired to think so. The previous touch is a contributing factor together with the present form, and the touch of the present same aggregate also exists inseparably. Therefore, that touch is a cause because it has the reason of indirectly helping to see form, so there is no contradiction in being a cause. Then, if the cause of eye consciousness is touch, will eye consciousness grasp touch? Just being a cause does not mean grasping it, just as sense consciousness does not grasp the sense faculty itself. Second, suffering does not arise without a cause, but does it arise from a permanent cause? It is not reasonable to think so, because in general, the arising of results from permanent things has already been refuted. It is also not certain for special permanent things, because it is not possible for the results to arise from the permanent things such as Ishvara, Brahma, Vishnu, etc., which are considered to be special permanent things and possess knowledge, because whatever is permanent. As long as it is permanent, it necessarily does not have the ability to function sequentially or simultaneously, because it is established by the reasoning of the power of reality. The second part includes: identifying the cause of birth as craving; combining this with scripture to explain the meaning; and refuting the arguments against it. First, as just explained, the contaminated aggregates of suffering nature are completely accomplished, and it is not without cause, nor is it produced from a permanent cause, therefore, craving that desires existence is the cause that accomplishes the aggregates of suffering. For example, the aggregates gathered by ordinary beings, including the superior, inferior, and intermediate, are called existence. These are all accomplished by the power of their respective cravings. Because, the differences of objects that are completely grasped by ordinary people, such as dwelling, friends, enjoyment, etc., whatever is completely grasped without abandoning, is caused by the thought of wanting to obtain them, that is, craving. Because for those who have no craving, they will not completely grasp, just like people treat piles of brooms, etc. Therefore, due to the power of craving for existence, constantly engaging in various actions, there is a continuous engagement in various existences. So, how does craving enter into evil destinies and so on? In the causal stage, due to the power of craving, one enters into evil destinies.
