Since it is believed that all that arises from the elements has attachment, like the warmth of fire, it is not appropriate to have differences in the size of attachment, hatred, etc. Even so, lions and the like have less attachment and more hatred, while donkeys and sparrows have more attachment. Furthermore, people have attachment, extreme attachment, and very extreme attachment. Similarly, there are differences in hatred, love, wisdom, etc., which is obviously harmful. Second, the actual text and its refutation. First, if it is said that the difference in the size of attachment, etc., in the realm of sentient beings is due to the difference in the causal elements, just as some fruits are sweet due to the difference in location, while those that grow from other locations are not like that. Even so, although there is no difference between elements such as living beings and extremely living beings, and all sentient beings are considered to be the same category of merely having life. However, the elements that serve as the basis for this life, which has different characteristics such as attachment, do not always remain in one state, but manifest as the nature of being sometimes present and sometimes absent, excellent and declining. Because some have the ability to generate great attachment, while others do not. If that is the case, the ability of the elements to increase and decrease is the same. Similarly, the elements previously had the ability to generate attachment, etc., but later they may lose it, because things that increase and decrease may be interrupted after extreme reduction. In this way, sentient beings born from the absence of these abilities will become without attachment, etc., because there is no cause. For example, just as what grows from neem seeds has no sweetness. Second, refuting the meaning and examples. First, if it is said that even though there are differences in the size of attachment, etc., the cause of all those sentient beings is the elements, and the mere fact that they have the same nature is irreversible. Even if the difference of having more attachment disappears, the elements themselves do not disappear, so it will not become without attachment. Then, for objects of the same or similar cause, because there is no difference, everyone should become the same without differences in the size of attachment, etc. For example, cows produced from milk, etc., which have the same nature

The consciousness of a cow, whether it perceives something as speckled or red, only recognizes it as a cow. It doesn't differentiate between "cow," "very cow," or "extremely cow" in terms of degree. Similarly, in the view of the Lokayata (materialist) school, earth and other elements are themselves life. Even if there are distinctions like "very life" or "extremely very life" in terms of degree, if there are no other levels of difference in some cases, then the result is just life, without any distinction. Likewise, how could there be any difference in the results of that, such as desire? Life and desire arise from the elements, and if the elements don't arise, then it goes without saying. Even if they do arise, it's just because it is that thing, and it's unreasonable to expect distinct levels of difference. If there is no difference in the degree of life, but there is a difference in the degree of desire, then the cause of both is not just the elements. It is proven that there is another cause for the greater degree of desire, because the elements alone are not certain to produce it. Similarly, the differences in the bodies of sentient beings are not just from the elements; if that were the case, it would lead to a state of no difference. Therefore, it is also proven that there is another cause, which follows the previous karma. Second: The example and the exemplified are not similar. If they are considered similar, it is too extreme. First: Just as there are differences in the degree of warmth between sandalwood fire and ordinary fire, but there is no fire that is completely without warmth, similarly, if it is thought that in this case of elements, there are different aspects of producing greater or lesser degrees of desire, but there is no aspect that does not produce desire at all, then this is not reasonable. As much as there is warmth, that is fire, and it precludes the existence of another fire apart from warmth. If warmth and fire are different, then it would lead to the existence of fire without warmth, and it would be harmed by various reasons stated earlier, such as the rejection of simultaneous dependence. Therefore, the example of fire and the exemplified earth and so on are not similar. If it is thought that a quality that is inseparable from its subject, or exists in a way that depends on it, has levels of difference in increase and decrease, then those qualities, that is, the subject or the support, their differences may also be interrupted at some times or in some cases, for example, when the white color of wool and so on is changed by other colors, as mentioned earlier.
