However, there is not a single moment without mind, because even without relying on each of the five faculties and their aggregation, mind can arise, therefore there is no proof that mind follows the continuum of the body back and forth. Mind only arises when its own similar previous thought has preceded it, and it will also arise again in a continuum. This alone is able to dispel the wrong views of outsiders and others who believe that there are no previous or future lives. Furthermore, if analyzed carefully, as stated in the scriptures, upon careful examination, in situations such as sleep, the coarse mind gradually ceases, but the subtle mind does not cease. Even if the subtle mind ceases, the alaya consciousness does not cease, and even if the alaya consciousness ceases, the mind of clear light never ceases, therefore it is impossible for the mind to be completely cut off, and therefore it is also proven that the continuum of wisdom does not cease. Because if there were no element or seed of mind that has existed since beginningless time, it would be impossible to be liberated or deluded. These principles are explained in increasingly clearer ways in different vehicles. The Ornament of the Sutras also states: "The mind always desires the nature of clear light, it is made bad by sudden faults. Another mind other than the mind of Dharma-nature, is said to be a nature that is not clear light." As it is said, it should be known that the nature of the mind is clear light, but due to universal delusion, it revolves in the three realms. Therefore, these above-mentioned reasonings must ultimately lead to this established conclusion, therefore it is very important. Second, refuting simultaneous support. Refuting the unreasonable views of others, and establishing the reasonable meaning of establishment. First, refuting by examining whether there is or is not reliance. Refuting by examining whether there is arising or ceasing of reliance. First, refuting by examining whether there is or is not reliance. The way to refute other schools in this way. First, refuting the refutation and its answer. First, if it is said that body and mind are simultaneous, and mind dwells in the body, then what is this simultaneous dwelling? If at that time, like a collection of a vase and cloth, they do not help each other, then this cannot be a support and supported. If it is thought that through mutual help, the support causes the supported to exist, then, does the support that is to be existed rely on its own essence that exists substantially? Or does it rely on non-existence? If it exists, it is already established by itself and does not need any support, and if it does not exist, there is nothing to rely on.

Therefore, whether they exist or not, since they are not the basis for these, they cannot help simultaneously, so there is no basis. If it is said that it is unreasonable to rely on non-existence, but the existing dwelling cause that has already been established is called the basis. Then, for this existence, there is no need to rely on the basis to exist, because the so-called existence is not other than the existing self that has already been established, that is, it is not different, so the basis does not make any difference in existence. If it is said that existence other than the existing is other, even if the cause of the so-called existence other than the existing is the basis, what act of existence does the basis do to the object of the basis? Nothing at all. Doing other things is like a potter making a pot, but not making a cow exist. If it is thought that without a basis, it will not exist, and the basis makes it exist. Then, what has already been established does not need to exist, and if it does not perish but exists for a long time, then the basis makes it not perish, so the basis will never perish. If it is said that it is not that it never perishes, but that the destruction of the basis arises from a later cause. Then, for destruction, the above fault is the same, that is, does the cause of destruction destroy the existing that is simultaneous with itself, or does it destroy the non-existent? It cannot destroy the existing, nor can it destroy the non-existent. Or, if the object and destruction are one, then there is no need for a cause of destruction, and if they are other, then it is the same that the object does not perish. Even if the cause of destruction destroys, then what does the cause of existence do to make it exist? If it does not encounter the cause of destruction, there is no need to make it exist, and if it encounters it, it cannot make it exist. If it is said that the basis makes it exist before it encounters the cause of destruction. If so, if it does not make it exist before it encounters the cause of destruction, then it will immediately perish. If so, even if there is no other cause of destruction, it is established that it perishes itself, so there is no obstacle or harm to the fact that destruction is the nature of the object, so what can the cause of existence do for the fact that it does not perish? It cannot do anything, so there is no need. If it can, it will encounter the cause of destruction.
