The wisdom of those who have it is different, because "it is this, it is that" in this way, through the different understandings of wisdom, it is because of completely determining things. If there are grasped aspects or different aspects of wisdom, then there will be different understandings such as "it is this, it is that", otherwise it is impossible. Second, what is this " ಪ್ರಮಾಣ (pramāṇa, 量)"? Is it something that is established without deceiving the object itself? Or does it need to be established as ಪ್ರಮಾಣ (pramāṇa, 量) by other conditions? If it is like the first one, then there is no need for the treatise on ಪ್ರಮಾಣ (pramāṇa, 量), because it has already been established as ಪ್ರಮಾಣ (pramāṇa, 量) itself. If it is like the second one, then the establisher will become infinite, and the momentary wisdom itself is not established as ಪ್ರಮಾಣ (pramāṇa, 量), and it is impossible to establish it as ಪ್ರಮಾಣ (pramāṇa, 量) again. Furthermore, that wisdom does not deceive, is it determined by itself or does it need to be determined by other causes? If it is like the first one, then no one will be confused about ಪ್ರಮಾಣ (pramāṇa, 量) and non- ಪ್ರಮಾಣ (pramāṇa, 量), so the treatise on ಪ್ರಮಾಣ (pramāṇa, 量) is meaningless. If it is like the second one, if one does not have non-deception, then others cannot do anything about it. Also, objects and subjects, moments and grossness, etc.

From the perspective of analysis, if a mind is in accordance with or not in accordance with reality, then it is divided into valid and invalid cognition, and the mind that correctly measures the object is regarded as valid cognition. Therefore, treatises that explain the system of valid cognition are not for the purpose of transforming a cognition that was originally not valid into valid cognition, but to eliminate the ignorance of not recognizing valid cognition as valid and falsely attributing validity to invalid cognition. Therefore, treatises on valid cognition are meaningful. Third, regarding the substance and related questions. First, some teachers' works say that the definition of valid cognition is "elucidating the unknown meaning." Here it says "non-deceptive knowledge," is there not a contradiction? There is no contradiction, because elucidating the unknown meaning is also a definition of valid cognition. These two definitions can be applied separately to the definitions of valid cognition in conventional and ultimate senses, or it can be thought that the combination of the two is the complete definition of valid cognition, or it can be thought that the two have the same meaning. Although there are these three views, only the last one should be adopted. If there are many different definitions, wouldn't the definition of valid cognition become endless? No, because these two are only different in the way they are expressed in words, and there is no difference in meaning. How to understand it? Because the knowledge that can elucidate the unknown meaning is non-deceptive with respect to that meaning; and the non-deceptive knowledge is also the elucidator of that unknown meaning. Second, for example, after directly recognizing the essence of a blue object, the general consciousness that determines blue arises. This situation also meets the definition of "elucidating the unknown meaning," so it will be too broad. Because general consciousness is newly produced, it is also the elucidator of the general meaning that was previously unknown. If you think so, then "meaning" refers to the state of the object's own characteristics, that is, something previously unknown and newly known. Therefore, for decisive knowledge, it is not too broad. Because it has already been directly recognized, it is only grasped in a general way, and there is no new recognition of the object's own characteristics. If you think that "meaning" refers to the own-characteristic, then how to understand it? Because the object of conventional analysis is things that have function, and the definition of valid cognition is determined by analyzing whether its own-characteristic is deceptive.
