Because it is deception, and it is determined as being so or not so, therefore it exists in meaning as such. Moreover, this definition does not possess the absence of exclusion, it will become non-pervasive, if it is said: the valid cognition arising from sound is not knowledge, but it is a non-deceptive valid cognition. Then, what is generally called the valid cognition arising from sound? Does it refer to the hearing consciousness arising from sound? Or does it refer to the conceptual thought that grasps the general characteristic of sound after that? Or does it refer to understanding the meaning expressed from the sound itself? If it is the first case, then it is direct perception; if it is the second case, it can also be inference, because the consciousness of hearing arising from sound is also the consciousness that grasps the sound that has become a sign for showing the meaning of how the speaker measures and manifests what is desired. How is it inferred from that? Whatever object is expressed by the speaker's language, which is very clear in the speaker's own wisdom with conceptual thought, just that sound is a valid cognition, because it is the sign of its result. Moreover, the word "also" includes appearances such as lightning, drawings, and clouds, and even though these are not obtained, just the appearance of them becomes a valid cognition for them. Then, will the appearance of dreams and the double moon also become valid cognitions? It is not contradictory for just appearing there to become a valid cognition, because it is established by self-awareness, and it is not determined that there is no appearance there, and it is not determined that they obtain things that can function, just as valid cognition determines that they cannot function, it is also non-deceptive. If it is the third case, understanding the meaning from sound that is neither direct perception nor inference, is like understanding hidden things from scripture, because just the sound is a valid cognition. Then, there is no reason why just the sound becomes a valid cognition in meaning, and it is not a reason for understanding the reality of external things, because there is no relationship of non-arising without it between sound and meaning, it has been analyzed many times. Then, for extremely hidden things, measuring with scripture, that is not the object of the two valid cognitions, but there is non-deception, isn't just the sound of scripture that becomes the measured object, becoming a valid cognition for it? That is inferred from language that is purified by three examinations, not just by the power of sound, because there is a possibility of error. If true meaning can also be obtained from human language, and by the power of experience and signs,

If it is thought that even without cutting off reliance and conjecture, meaning can be obtained from holding on to one-sided conjecture, and meaning can also be obtained from hesitation, just like working in the fields and going to the sea to collect treasures, there are also cases of non-deception, isn't there? Answer: Occasionally, meaning can be obtained from that, but it is not the case that it is not deceptive in all cases, and sometimes it may be deceptive, while what is determined by measurement is because it is not deceptive in all cases. If meaning is not deceptive in its own characteristics, then how can measurement exist in the doctrine of Yogacara, which does not admit external objects? Answer: Even if external objects are not established, there are also cases of non-deception for the knowledge that arises from the stable imprints and appears as real, just like how to make a decision. Therefore, the appearance of accomplishing the purpose in the realm seen on this shore is established as infallible and undeniable, and that alone has made the meaning of the term, so there is no difference. Furthermore, if it is thought that the characteristic of non-deceptive knowledge does not exclude others who possess it, but rather pervades decisive knowledge, the answer is that it is merely the re-grasping of the meaning of the object that has already been decided by the previous measurement and whose function of grasping has not disappeared. Therefore, other names, such as conventional knowledge, ascertainment, or decisive knowledge, are not considered to be measurements, because the function of non-deception has already been accomplished by the previous measurement, and therefore, this has become knowledge that is in accordance with meaning from its power, but not by its own power, just like true conjecture. Third, in terms of debate and response: Knowledge alone is valid The treatises on validity are not meaningless Different definitions, same meaning here First, the Vaibhashikas and others who believe that the visible sense organs are valid say: It is unreasonable to establish only knowledge as valid, because the sense organs also have non-deceptive circumstances. Similarly, the scale can also non-deceptively measure the lightness and heaviness of tactile objects. Furthermore, the existence and non-existence of objects, from their own perspective, also have non-deceptive circumstances. Since there are various other non-deceptive circumstances, how can one establish the non-deceptive measurement only for knowledge? Answer: It is reasonable to establish the mind as the measurement, because the mind is the main thing for engaging in the meaning of things to be taken and abandoned, so only it is the measurement. Even if there are many factors such as sense organs that measure the meaning without error, without the consciousness arising from them, it is completely impossible to determine acceptance and rejection through them, and the appearance of any object
