That which is the function of causing the earth to grow is truly existent in the realm of entering and exiting of individuals in name. The self-characterized things that truly exist also do not follow each other, but abide in their own nature as different. Whatever appears to follow each other, such as universals, etc., are merely fabricated, and do not exist in reality, therefore no result will ever arise from them. Secondly, establishing that distinct otherness is the cause of the result: Although there is no universal, it is reasonable to have cause and non-cause. Although they are different, it is possible for many to produce one. Although they are different, one is not all. Firstly, as just explained, the seeds of barley and the seeds of rice have different natures or essences. Some of them, such as the seeds of barley, are the cause of barley sprouts, but the other seeds of rice are not its cause. This is the nature or dharma of things, and this is the reason for action. Therefore, it is impossible to refute and examine that the dharma of things is like this, just as saying that fire is hot, why is water not hot, but abides in the nature of moisture. If these are not separated from the nature of one main thing, then all the collections of causes would have no difference, and the nature of the result would also be the same, then when a tree is born, calves would also be born together, and everything would arise simultaneously. When one is destroyed, all other things that are the same in nature as it will also be destroyed. If everything is one in the nature of the main thing, but different in terms of the changes in form, so they arise and are destroyed, then the others are different in terms of the changes in form, so they will not arise and be destroyed simultaneously. If when any manifestation is destroyed, the universal or main thing that has become its nature or essence does not perish and remains, then it is not the nature of that difference or change of form, because one perishes and one does not perish, so it is impossible for the basis of these two contradictions to be the same. Because it is not its, therefore the mind that arises for them, the universal and the particular, will also not arise, because there is no common basis. Then, this is the same for you who speak of the opposite nature, when a tree is destroyed, the opposite nature of the tree will also be destroyed.

If asked whether it will change, the "separation" that is merely separated from non-trees, since it does not have its own entity as substance, it is meaningless to think and investigate whether that "separation" exists or does not exist when one thing with "separation" disappears. When a tree grows, it is also separated from non-trees, but when a tree disappears, because the entity of the tree disappears, it will not become the separation from other trees nonexistent. That tree's separation will not remain independently either, because separation itself has no entity, so it will not arise and cease with its own entity. Therefore, the disappearance of one tree will not cause the universal of trees to disappear, because the universal is attached to the "separation" that is merely separated from non-trees, so thinking that the consciousness of the universal is also just a fallacy set by concepts, therefore, on the basis of things, the analysis performed by thinking about whether it will perish, etc., will not refute it either. There are two kinds of exclusion of universals: non-affirming negation and affirming negation. The first is: completely distinguishing the object to be excluded without involving others, such as "no-self." The second is: involving the basis of exclusion where the object of exclusion does not exist, such as "the pot is not self." These two methods have no difference in excluding the non-existence of the object of exclusion, only the difference of whether or not to grasp the basis of exclusion. The way such exclusion of others exists on the basis of things is that, because trees have no other non-trees, the tree with branches and leaves exists in the nature outside of non-trees, which has been explained in the chapter on all things. That is the basis of sound and concept, but in reality, sound cannot express things in the same way that things exclude others, which has been explained in the chapter on expressing in that way. The exclusion of others by consciousness refers to that which excludes others through it, that is, the object that appears in the consciousness of discriminating thoughts about trees, etc. The appearing object appears in the way of excluding non-it, so merely appearing there can exclude others, which the author considers to be the actual expression of sound, that is, those meanings that exist in knowledge, etc., have been clearly explained. Second, although they are different, multiple things can produce one thing: the Samkhya school, etc., believes that the nature of the producer of the sprout, such as the seed, is only one, while others
