Pages 101 to 200. Pages 101 to 200. These are merely simultaneously indicated by words that clearly distinguish what is not the cause of eye consciousness. That is, in order to simultaneously indicate all things such as the eye and form, it is represented by that word. For example, for the sake of linguistic convenience, if we say, "From A to Ksha (藏文:ཨ་ནས་ཀྵའི་བར།), these are the basis of letters," although the meaning can be understood, whether each letter in the general term "from A to Ksha" exists or not, it is said that way because one wants to express it, just like understanding the meaning. Therefore, these designations of terms are from the perspective of multiple causes producing one result, and the multiple causes are understood by the name of achieving that result, and this is also named from the results of three types: collection, continuity, and state or different entities. Among them, different collections produce one result, and one name is given from the perspective of achieving that result, such as naming a lump of eight particles as a vase, because all eight particles have the function of holding water, so it is named that way. Therefore, that sound applies to all the particulars associated with that result. Similarly, many things such as grains are also like that. If the name of the vase is not named from the function of producing the result of holding water, but is simply named as a lump of eight particles, then that name will also apply to pillars and so on. If we say "the shape of the vase," then only the shape distinguished by holding water is grasped, not the shape of pillars and so on, because they cannot hold water. Naming a name from the perspective of multiple continuous causes producing one result is like "the cause of grain." Although there are many things that are its cause, such as seeds, seedlings, and ears of grain, that one name applies to all things that are the direct or indirect cause of that result. Naming from the perspective of different states producing one result, such as "manifest" and "obstructed." For self-grasping power consciousness, from the perspective of having the result of being able to be manifested or appearing, that name applies to many different things such as blue, yellow, square, and crescent. For the cause of eye consciousness and so on, and for many things such as the objects taken by the eye, it should be understood in the same way.

Because many results do not arise from a single cause, but are similar from the opposite perspective, a single name is used to simultaneously express multiple causes, just like "son of a robber," where one name represents five hundred sons, and "son of a speckled cow," etc. All the different results produced by human actions are immediately called "results of effort," and so on. Things that grow from seeds, etc., all these similar categories represent results through causes. Furthermore, by negating the cause, other things that do not possess that cause are represented. For example, "not produced by effort" indicates the absence of the cause of human effort, referring to lightning and other things. Similarly, "not born from water," "ownerless," "helpless," "non-teacher" also represent things that lack those beneficial causes. It is said that "unborn" and "emptiness" are also negations of causes. Even though the word "self-arisen" does not have a direct negative term, it is expressed through the negation of causes. Representing things that do not possess that result by negating the result, for example, "not apprehended by the eye" indicates that the result of sound, etc., does not produce eye consciousness, so from the perspective of negating that result, it represents other things that are not form. Similarly, all the words that attach negative terms to the above results, such as "not the cause of eye consciousness," etc., and the word "impermanent" is also a negation of permanence. This is because those who cling to permanence believe that although permanence is not produced by causes, permanence can function, so the word "permanence" becomes a word named from the perspective of result or need. Therefore, the self-commentary says that such a word that cuts off clinging is also a negation of the result. Similarly, "selflessness" is also the same. In Shakya Buddhi's commentary, it is said that suffering is also the opposite of the result of happiness, so it is a negation of the result. It is better to translate it as "unhappiness," because suffering is a word that expresses the result. Therefore, inferring from the above words expressing cause and result, by attaching negative terms to these words, they become negative words. In this way, through the ways of affirming and negating cause and result, the usage of words becomes one with four branches. Secondly, to explain that the general itself does not need to be the domain of words, that is, general things are the objects expressed by words.
