Therefore, the generalities to be clarified become clear from seeing things like cows that possess generalities, but from what reason is this unreasonable? Thus, for different dharmas, as long as there is a connection, it must be distinguished by something that produces an unprecedented particularity. For anything that is not dependent, there will be no connection. And for what is dependent, from the aspect of one thing producing a different particularity in another, this is the root of the causal relationship. Because the material continuity of things is impermanent, one thing becomes a co-operative factor for another in order to produce the differences of one moment after another. Therefore, the assertions made by outsiders regarding the mutual connection of different dharmas in temporary situations, and the aggregative connection of fitting together in one assembly, etc., are due to ignorance of the arising of momentary differences, and not understanding the root of the causal relationship, resulting in unstable theories that become the source of contradictions. To this, someone might say: Light makes the generality clear, but it is not beneficial to the generality, but beneficial to the sense faculty that grasps the generality, therefore it becomes clear, just as a lamp is beneficial to the eye. This is not correct, because just as the sense faculty is benefited by eye medicine, probes, and good care, etc., from the appearance of things like pots, the sense faculty is not made to contribute to the grasping of the generality. Because in times of existence and non-existence, there is no difference in clarity or obscurity for the sense faculty's realization or knowledge. If one sees things beyond the ordinary sense faculty by making the sense faculty clear, then just as one sees underground pots after applying eye medicine, one must observe phenomena that have become more special than before. Secondly, The extreme case is: if one assumes that the genus or generality is related to the manifestation merely because it is the manifestor, then the lamp, sun, moon, etc., which manifest the form of a cow, and the sense faculty, attention, etc., which are the manifestors, will also be related to the generality of the cow itself and the pot itself, etc. Because just as it is impossible to manifest without relying on the generality of the cow, it is also impossible to manifest without relying on the sense faculty, etc. Moreover, even if there is no light from the lamp, etc., cows, etc., will not be clear. Third, before

Regarding the way in which categories do not pervade phenomena that do not exist: First, it is stated that there are no categories in phenomena that do not exist. Regarding categories, two views are refuted separately. First, according to the system of those outsiders who think that categories are different from phenomena, or who think that they exist as not different, how does the wisdom of generality arise in the phenomena of non-existent cows, etc.? The reason is that the generality seen as existing in one previous phenomenon cannot be seen as existing in a newly arisen other, because previous and subsequent phenomena do not exist at the same time. If the category exists at the same time, then seeing one cow would entail seeing the category of all cows. In that case, it would also entail seeing all cows in all directions and times. If the category does not exist at the same time, then it would entail impermanence. Furthermore, if the generality is not different from the previous phenomenon, then it cannot follow from that one to others; but if it is different from the previous phenomenon, then the generality does not depend on that phenomenon, so how can the generality be seen by relying on the phenomenon? Therefore, establishing it in that way is only a cause of fatigue. Second, refuting separately: Refuting non-pervasion of things other than one's own basis. Refuting pervasion of all things whether one's own basis exists or not. First, the ascetic Kanada said that generality pervades all things. His disciple Pithara thinks that generality pervades all the phenomena of its own basis, but does not exist in places where there is no phenomenon. Veluka thinks that if that were the case, it would not pervade everything, so it pervades all things whether phenomena exist or not. Regarding the first view, when a new cow arises in a place where there were no cows before, the generality existing in other phenomena does not leave its own basis, and the place where the new cow arises did not exist before, nor did it come into existence after the new phenomenon arose, because the previously existing generality is permanent. Furthermore, it does not have the characteristic of one part remaining in the previous and one part moving to the later, because it has no parts. Since the previous basis is not completely abandoned, the previous generality does not move to other things, so admitting such a view is, alas, relying on fatigue, and is the cause of being poor or lacking in proof. The previous phenomenon exists in other things
