If the nature that is separated from defilements becomes clear again, then why is it permissible to apply the power of the assembly that makes it clear when there is no obscuration? Because there is nothing to be removed, what is the remover going to remove? It is like washing away the dirt of the sky. Therefore, even without a clarifier, it will become clear immediately. If it is thought that the cause of manifestation is only the result of the effort of the tongue, palate, etc., just as it has not been seen before, now it is still thought that these agents are only the cause of sound manifestation. Since there is no difference in the way sound and cause act after existence or non-existence, then other things such as earthenware pots, etc., should also be considered to be manifested without being made by potters, etc. If you also think so, then all the causes of production will become meaningless, because no fruit will be newly produced. Even if you admit this, the constant Dharma manifestation just mentioned is not allowed, and the faults of pervasiveness and non-pervasiveness, etc., apply not only to sound, but also to all things, so the contradiction becomes a hundred times heavier. Second, for the object of cognition, the Dharma is constant, which is not established, and for the sound of constancy, there can be no proof. By the power of things, the impermanence of sound is established by reason, divided into two. First, to establish that sound is constant, it shows that there is no analogy. Taking this reason as an example, refute the views of other schools. First, the sound of knowledge is constant, this basis is not established, so there is only a statement of commitment there, and there is no proof. Therefore, since the nature of the object of cognition itself is not established, the Dharma characteristic is not established, thus pointing out the fault. To this, the other party believes that in order to establish that sound is constant, such as a sound like "A", whenever it is heard, it can be recognized as "A" without any difference, so it is constant. Because if the previous "A" disappeared, it would not be possible to recognize it again. Therefore, recognizing it means that the sound has not disappeared, and it is the proof of constancy. And, in order to understand the meaning of sounds such as "A", it is used, so the basis itself used for that purpose, "A", etc., must be constant, because the sound will never be unusable. If something does not exist somewhere, then it cannot be used for other actions, just as there is no knife in the direction, so it cannot be used for cutting trees. Therefore, when used for cutting trees

Just as the application of a tool is pervasive only to an object that already exists, sound must necessarily be applied to what exists, therefore they believe that it is only ever permanent. And so on, from within the scope of all prior and subsequent objects aimed at the sound of 'A', there is no difference in nature because they all aim at the same object, and so on, to establish it. If one believes that such seeming signs are proofs of the permanence of sound, then when presenting such to a Buddhist, there is no example that possesses the property to be proven in any way. What is the reason? Because Buddhists accept that all internal and external phenomena, including those that appear as the basis for being recognized and utilized, are of the nature of momentary destruction and impermanence, and they never accept any permanent entity. Therefore, what was seen before and what is seen later are different in essence; they do not believe that what was before is not ceased and can be seen, but rather like the continuity of a flame and flowing water. The application of tools and so on is also not the same as what was before, but is a moment distinguished by the power of application; if it were the same as before, it would either not function as before or would have been functioning from before. Even if it is allowed that it does not function because it is not an object, the object itself is momentary, so it is applied, but it is impossible for a permanent entity to be applied, so they do not believe it. Similarly, Diamond Mountain and so on are considered to be different moments because of the distinction of perceiving differences in cold and heat, appearance and non-appearance, and not permanent. Therefore, the previously permanent 'A' sound is not what is perceived again, because it is the cause of different cognitions, just as the seeds of seedlings from last year and this year are different. If the cause is a permanent, partless, undifferentiated entity, then it cannot be influenced by co-action, so it has no reason to generate prior and subsequent self-cognition, and therefore it would generate them simultaneously. If it is not the cause of generating cognition, then it is also unreasonable to posit that cognition arises in dependence on it. Secondly, any other bad arguments that do not fulfill the three modes, which are presented as proofs of the permanence of sound and so on, should be refuted by this reasoning. If the prior and subsequent cognitions that aim at sound...
