If it is argued that there is no sound and meaning, then because the basis of the dharma to be proven, such as the chief object, etc., the mere sound and meaning of the dharma-nature, is also abandoned or excluded. The collection of the prover and the dharma-nature will not become the proven, and the unconstrained proven that is not distinguished by any dharma-nature, and the absence of dharma, etc., are merely those that have already been established, so there is no desire to know about these. Those who do not argue that there is merely no sound and meaning, with the distinction of clinging to the respective aspects of existence and non-existence in meaning, as sound and meaning are, the very thing that possesses the fruit of entry is what should be examined. Because this self-character of things depends on the arising of the fruit, that is, the needed fruit depends only on this, and mere sound and meaning cannot produce that fruit. For example, even if the mere sound and meaning of "fire" is established in the mind, it cannot dispel cold. Therefore, for mere sound and meaning that cannot perform a function, what is the use of those who seek the fruit, examining and analyzing "its state is like this and like that," and clinging to it as established in meaning? For example, for a hermaphrodite, what is the use of those who desire sexual intercourse, examining and analyzing "is this appearance good or not?" Because he cannot accomplish that meaning. Therefore, even if the sound and meaning of the chief object, etc., are merely established, it cannot perform the action of generating various changes, and the self-characterized chief object that is examined as capable cannot be established. Third, the teacher Dignāga said, "Non-observation is a dharma," thus declaring that the non-observation of the chief object, etc., of the outsiders, that itself is the dharma of wanting to understand the direction. Here, the meaning of sound not being observed as the proximate cause of things is declared as a dharma, so are these two not contradictory? They are not contradictory, because these two have the same meaning. How is it? Because it is the object of the discriminating consciousness itself, the meaning of the sound of the chief object, etc., is merely mentally constructed, and that itself is not established or not observed as the basis or proximate cause of things, this is the dharma of the dharma-nature of mere sound and meaning, spoken by the one with the name Dignāga, who speaks of reason. The self-character of the chief object not being observed in the outsiders, that chief object

This understanding will only become sound and meaning, and not a statement with things as its cause, just like saying "rabbit horns," it ends up being the same as a head. Therefore, sounds and meanings appear in a mixed way, and when denying that it does not exist, it is not just preventing sounds and meanings. This way of grasping things, in reality, is not established, and this key point is that, through the three-aspects-complete reason, it is possible to negate that thing. Second, for things that are not obvious, arguing in the absence of observation. A statement alone, without valid cognition, is not a proof. Accepting this is shown as a sign of foolishness. First, merely the statement being wrong does not necessarily refute the meaning of the kalpa's end. The conclusion of such a teaching is a summary. First, negating by examining whether the agent exists or not, and negating all truths by one truth. First, examining statements made by people, and negating the assertion of statements not made by people. First, merely being made by a person is not necessarily a statement, and the way it is difficult to know an excellent person. First, the actual negation and avoiding the contradiction of statements. First. The Cārvākas, etc., say that in the case of non-obvious things, in the absence of observation, "the treatise is unrelated to the meaning" is unreasonable. Because direct perception and inference are objects of limited scope, their error does not necessarily mean that the object does not exist. However, statements are objects of all meanings, so if a statement is wrong, or if it is not explained in the statement, it should be known that it does not exist. As it says in the Vedas: "Whatever is not explained in the Vedas, it should be known that it does not exist. There is no hearing like the Vedas." Just like that, it is impossible for there to be any needs related to people that are not explained in the treatise, because the Vedas are the object of all knowledge. They say that. To this, the intention of these people is that the statement of the Vedas is accepted as a valid cognition that does not deceive in meaning, and they think that what is not explained there, the assertions of the Buddhists are not established. Thinking this in their minds, they think that the sound arises or the valid cognition of the statement is independent. That is, it is impossible to find a statement that shows all the things to be examined through the conceptualization of people. Because statements only show the object of expression of their respective situations, showing other things that are not necessary there is unrelated to the situation, and it is also impossible to show everything with one statement. Just like an omniscient being, knowing
