As the sound of "tree" by the elephant of direction, by differing from others, some parts of the external object, that is, from the reverse aspects that are different from the self-characteristics, relying on the general mind to realize as one appearance, and understanding or realizing those reverse aspects of the meanings, thus, that exclusion of others is well explained as the actual object of sound, that is, it means that by the door of reversal, the sound understands the difference or special dharma of things. It also dispels doubts about the meaning of the scripture that relies on reversal to hold the self-characteristics of things with reversal. Also, the second scripture says: Sound is the speech that distinguishes things by differing from other meanings. That is also, in this exclusion, there is not even a little bit of self-nature established separately from the reversal, but from the sounds of vase and so on, in front of the discriminating consciousness, in the way that the appearance of the vase is mixed with discrimination, only by that realization or appearance, also in the meaning, realizing the contradiction with non-vase, that is called exclusion, and in that way, like the general appearance of other meanings from things, realizing the difference made by some exclusions that are different from the reversal, there is not even a little bit more than that, therefore, it is only the name of exclusion that is falsely established on the non-thing that is cut off from that. Therefore, the meaning of so-called distinguishing by reversal is also not like reversal and having reversal, like a man and a stick, established as different entities in meaning, but it is said from the division of mutual non-existence, so by the understanding of one, the other is understood in meaning, only to that extent is the name of distinction applied, but not in meaning as different entities like the basis of distinction and the dharma of distinction. The third scripture says: Sound excludes other meanings and speaks its own meaning. In this way, the sound of "tree" cuts off non-tree, and the sound of establishing tree also does not show those two objects as different entities, because tree and non-tree are mutually non-existent, so because they abide by mutually abandoning, there is no speech of different entities, the sound of tree cuts off non-tree, only by this it is established as the tree itself, so there is no different entity. Therefore, in this reversal, there is not even a little bit of self-nature or thing, only the negation of completely excluding others.

O! Even so, due to the power of sound, it seems to completely determine its own essence, and due to the influence of projection, it seems as if it possesses things. This is merely being misled by erroneous thinking, and it is not established in reality. Precisely for this reason, this "opposite" is not truly existent, that is, it does not exist as a thing. Therefore, these three statements of the teacher show that sound excludes the object of expression of things, and the so-called "exclusion of others" does not mean that the "opposite" that is different from the one with the "opposite" is shown as a thing, nor does it mean that the sound object distinguished by it is accepted as a thing. Other than that, if the "opposite" itself is considered a thing, it is not reasonable, because it is harmed by reasoning. For example, the object of agarwood, its "opposite" will not become a thing, because the thing is self-characterized and exists in meaning. The difference of the "opposite" on it is merely a fabricated existence, not an existence as a thing, because it is a negative part. The reason for this is that it can be said, "This agarwood is different or other from other things that are not it, such as iron." If agarwood itself is not said to be different from things that are not it, then agarwood itself will become not agarwood, just like iron and so on. Therefore, if one does not say or think that this tree is different from things that are not trees, then this tree will become not a tree, because it has not returned from things that are not trees. If it is said that this tree is different from things that are not trees, but the part of its difference itself becomes a thing, then, on the spruce, is the difference from things that are not trees the object of the spruce itself, or is it an object that has become different from the spruce? If it is the former, because returning from things that are not trees is the object of the spruce. Then, other sandalwood and so on will become not trees, because it is not the object of the spruce. If it is the latter, even if the difference from things that are not trees on the spruce can exist as a thing, the object of the spruce has not returned from things that are not trees, or is not different from things that are not trees, therefore the spruce will become not a tree. Therefore, it should not be said that the object of the spruce is different from things that are not trees. If, on the essence of things, the part that excludes its own non-existence becomes a thing, just like the Chinese fir tree supported on the base of a castle, then each "opposite" will exist infinitely, and
