And the statement that "all things are gathered in the complete purpose," and "omniscience sees all knowledge," etc., these forms of imputation in the opposite direction are cut off by those sounds. It is not that one must first establish the things said and the non-things said in two groups, and then one must eliminate one of them. Rather, by eliminating the imputation in the opposite direction, it becomes the elimination of the other. The third debate is, showing the appearance of the opposite as a mixed expression. This is explained as the intention of Dignāga and Dharmakīrti. First, the elucidators and others say: This exclusion is the same as generality, that is, does the expressing sound express by proving the exclusion, or does it express by excluding? If according to the first case, the entry of exclusion is lost. If according to the second case, then exclusion must also enter by exclusion, so it becomes infinite. Answer: The sound of a pot cuts off non-pot, that is just exclusion, where is there a need for infinity? If one expresses from the opposite aspect of exclusion itself, then it also cuts off non-exclusion, just like the opposite of a pot and the exclusion of other from a pot. Because it is thought that sound enters exclusion, proving entry is cut off by meaning, and no other is needed. Even if it does not become infinite, if the opposite is a thing, then there is the fault of expressing a general thing. If there is no thing, then expressing it has no necessary ability, because it is impossible to understand the thing pot, etc. Answer: Just like a tree appearing in conceptualization, a sign is established for the purpose of cutting off non-it. The sign of "tree" is not established for the mere exclusion of abandoning a tree, because the sign of "tree" is a sign of cutting off non-tree, not a sign of cutting off non-exclusion. Therefore, if one connects a sign to exclusion itself, then one should establish a sign of cutting off non-exclusion, such as exclusion and other-exclusion, etc. Therefore, those things that can be understood by the desire to express are all rooted in the exclusion of other from cutting off non-it, which is the root of accomplishing meaning. Therefore, in naming, it is generally done by the image of the object to be named appearing in the mind, therefore, there the sign is established for the purpose of cutting off non-it. Therefore, any sound like a tree, from which tree different non-tree, by inverting non-tree, the characteristics of a tree that are different in their own nature from those non-trees, that is, the self-characteristics, are all born from the power of being the same kind as the tree, or are the cause of it.

Since any appearance that is the object of conceptual mind is expressed through linguistic conventions, these conventions are applied to exclude others, or the meaning of the convention is established by the exclusion itself. If we examine and analyze, there is nothing that sound expresses that is not an object that has become a thing. Even if we cut off "not a pot," if we do not engage in establishing the pot itself, it will not show the meaning. So, if we make it an affirmative engagement, what contradiction is there? If sounds can show things in the way of establishing them, then there is no contradiction. But they cannot do that; they can only show the mere difference from others. Therefore, it has already been proven that it is impossible to engage in establishing without relying on exclusion. Even if there is no affirmative engagement, the meaning of the convention is established by the power of exclusion. To presume that it is like engaging through establishment is a mistake, like riding a horse and presuming that you yourself have gone. Therefore, if we examine how meaning is understood from conventions, we acknowledge that it is rooted in the exclusion of others, which is established by valid cognition. To think that because there is no thing in exclusion, the object of appearance of the expressed conceptualization should not appear to have shapes, etc., is wrong. If that were not the case, if a basis for exclusion did not appear, then since there would be no object of negation, how could it obtain the name of excluding others? It could not obtain it. So, if it is sufficient to make the appearance itself the object of expression, why bother with excluding others? If something does not exclude others, then how can sound and mind ascertain its unique essence? They cannot. So, even if others are not excluded, it is impossible for sound and mind to engage with them. If one's own essence does not appear, then it cannot be accomplished by merely excluding others. If you think that these two are the same, they are not the same. In applying sound, it acts as if establishing the general idea by the power of exclusion, but it does not cast away exclusion by way of establishing the appearance itself. If it were, then all sound conceptualizations would become like the objects of appearance of non-conceptualization, etc. All the faults mentioned in affirmative engagement would exist. Therefore, in the face of the clinging of those with delusion, although it seems like engaging through establishment, if we analyze, it abides in engaging through exclusion. Therefore, we acknowledge that it engages through exclusion. Second, this is an explanation of the view of Dignāga. The first quote is: "By turning away from others, a portion of that thing can be understood." This means that the meaning just explained, the teacher
