Because it is not fruitful, not graspable by eye consciousness, unable to hold water, etc., it is different or opposite from other meanings, therefore it is known and said that only one pot has multiple properties. Even a single pot can be grasped by eye consciousness and can be divided into many opposite properties such as bulging belly, shrinking bottom, and being able to hold water. This is the seed for the arising of the concept of a common basis. Without it, that concept cannot arise. In the ultimate sense, a common basis is not established, because unless the two common factors and the basis that becomes both of them are divided into one and three, a common basis cannot be established. If there are two properties on a thing, they cannot exist mutually, and if there are not, there is no common factor. Therefore, those that appear as different aspects in the mind, due to the action of elimination and inclusion, appear in the essence of things as indistinguishable from the aspects that appear, so it should be known that this is the reason for applying such a name. Second, establishing the self-system of the reason for its establishment is: Although the generality of the sound meaning alone and the common basis of multiple aspects do not exist in the ultimate sense, they are spoken and established as they appear from the power of concepts. In the meaning of the thing itself, generality and common basis are impossible. If it is impossible on the thing, then such an establishment is also meaningless and unnecessary. If someone asks: How are things like impermanence and sound established as subject and predicate, and how are different dharmas established from opposite angles even on one dharma, and how are non-different dharmas established from the angle of multiple dharmas having the same kind? For the true meaning, if there is no proper observation and analysis, but only reliance on the clinging of concepts, just as it is said in the world, relying entirely on that without making any changes, then, in order to make all the things to be proven and the things that can prove exist as they are on the self-characteristics of impermanence, selflessness, etc., and to be able to enter the ultimate truth, The scholars who make treatises have done this. For example, taking sound as impermanent to prove, in the essence of things, there is no distinction between the three: reason, property, and conclusion. Similarly, although all expressions do not have the self-characteristic of things, the judgment of expressions conforming to meaning entering the self-characteristic is not deceiving, therefore the scholars do this to the world.

Relying on such fame, the appearance and inference are mixed into one, and under this influence, all the terms such as what is to be established, what establishes, etc., are established. Apart from this, there is no other way to establish terms. Therefore, if we distinguish and analyze, the actual object expressed by sound is the general characteristic, and the object expressed by attachment is the specific characteristic. The actual expresser is the sound that appears as sound, which is the general sound, and the sound that is expressed by attachment is the sound specific characteristic that appears as sound. When learning words, without distinguishing between appearance and inference, we mistakenly think they are one, thus establishing the relationship between the object expressed and the expresser. The nature or things of the specific characteristic of the ultimate truth are different from each other, and they themselves, that is, the nature itself, will not be mixed. Like sound and impermanence, things with the same nature have no difference in meaning. Thinking that the specific characteristic is multiple things with the same nature, and thinking that one specific characteristic has multiple different dharmas, is deluded by conceptual thought. Therefore, the difference or special name of "that is general, this is special" is the meaning or object of conceptual thought that is transmitted from seeing the specific characteristic, but it is not actually applied to the specific characteristic. If you think about how to establish different dharmas on the false object of conceptual thought, then for the object of conceptual thought itself, you are more attached to the specific characteristic, just like being separated from all other specific characteristics, and here also establish the opposite of what is not done and permanent, etc., so for the thing that appears as having the opposite, the differences of various dharmas such as what is done and impermanent are distinguished and analyzed in detail. Therefore, for the conceptual thought that "sound is impermanent", and the inferential conceptual thought that "because it is made, it can be established", because the opportunity to see the specific characteristic of things is lost, that is, the specific characteristic is not seen, so you should know that you will not be attached to the specific characteristic that is distinguished by impermanence, etc. Then, if the logician Dignāga said that inference is attached to the special that is distinguished by excluding others, what does this mean? That refers to the special like fire, which is mixed or mixed with the general characteristic that appears in front of conceptual thought, and here it is said to be special in front of this attachment, but it does not mean that the word special refers to the inference actually grasping its own nature. The specific characteristic is the general characteristic that is not mixed with multiple, and it is unique.
