If I also do not exist, then by making affirmations and negations about it, one can understand the meaning of self-character; if the general is negated, then the particular is also negated; if the particular is established, then the general is also established, etc. If someone says this is unreasonable. If one examines the mind of the general apprehension that grasps the clear nature of a tree by mixing it with the appearance-judgment that presumes it to be real, although there is no grasping of the meaning of the self-character of the tree. But on the surface of clinging without examination, the meaning of the self-character seems to be truly existent, because the tree arises from the habitual tendencies of experiencing the self-character, and because it clings to its own appearing object as the external self-character of the tree. That is to say, the general consciousness that arises through the self-character of the tree, which ultimately distinguishes or returns from other dissimilar things such as the fruit of the tree not being able to burn, the nature of its appearing object is like an external thing. It is also like the image of a complete exclusion that returns from non-self. It also appears like a true self-character that returns from other dissimilar things, and those who name this appearance will cling to it even more and thus use terminology. Even so, for the appearing object of the general apprehension, such as fire, there is not the slightest element that allows a person seeking fruit to judge whether it has the ability to cook and burn, etc., therefore the appearance is not the self-character itself. If the appearance were the self-character itself, then the appearance of fire should also be able to block cold, and the general appearance of the heavenly realm should also be able to directly see the heavenly realm. Therefore, the things of the appearing object that exist in the consciousness of the general apprehension, like this, the nature of returning from non-tree etc. appears as a non-different one, and the appearing object such as a golden vase itself also appears as the self-character that has returned from other similar things. Therefore, what appears from the perspective of exclusion is called the general from the perspective of appearing as one, and what appears from the perspective of the returning self-character is called the co-substrate, such as "this is both an উৎপལ་(藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思:乌 উৎপལ་,utpala, utpala, blue lotus)and blue." Like this, whatever terminologies have the usage of return and co-substrate, that is, what is understood through thought and expressed through language, if examined, the discriminating and summarizing thought will apply and expand those meanings that are without falsity or error.

If terms have erroneous meanings, then that term will not obtain its object of reference. If someone asks: The inference of the understanding of sound as impermanent and the clinging to the understanding of sound as permanent, in terms of whether they are valid cognitions or not, there should be no difference. It is not like that. Because all the terms of knowledge expression of things rely on their own characteristics that do not mix with each other, that is the ultimate. Therefore, one's own nature is the object of eliminating other imputations on that thing, and if the conceptualization of the term clings to anything, then it is established on the thing as if it were grasped. If that conceptualization has a meaningful connection with the thing as object and object-possessor, then as the term delimits it, it can serve as a basis for finding or obtaining the self-characteristic thing. For example, although the appearing object of inference is the general meaning, it does not deceive the self-characteristic as it delimits it, just as it was said before. Therefore, all conceptualizations that agree and disagree with the meaning, although they similarly mistakenly cling to the general meaning as an object, unlike other inverted terms such as sound being permanent, do not obtain the meaning in the same way. Just as mistaking the light of a lamp for a jewel, even if one runs for the jewel, one cannot obtain the jewel. The term "sound is impermanent" obtains the meaning in the same way as it enters into it. Just as mistaking the light of a jewel for a jewel, even if one runs there, one can obtain the jewel. Therefore, for the term of conceptualization that has the object of elimination, one should know how to obtain and not obtain the meaning as delimited by the two, agreement and disagreement with the meaning. Third, the conclusion: The object of the term, even the various differences of a pot, is only the same in meaning in terms of the result of carrying water, etc. And what does not have this result, such as not carrying water, etc., is different or opposite to it. Such expressions and knowledge that rely on self-characteristics impute oneness even to many things, and thus widely apply the general term. Holding many things as one is the seed of general consciousness, and just as it applies one sound to many things, in order to fully show a clear thing like a pot, one pot can also generate eye consciousness and produce many of its own results such as carrying water. Pot
