What does this mean? Does it refer to the auditory consciousness arising from sound? Or does it refer to the concept that grasps the general characteristic of sound after that? Or does it refer to understanding the object to be expressed from the sound itself? If it is the first case, then it is direct perception; if it is the second case, it can also be inference. Because the mind of auditory consciousness arising from sound is also the mind that grasps that sound which has become a sign, that sound shows how the speaker measures and manifests the meaning of what he wants to express. So, how do you infer from this? Only the object expressed by the speaker's language is very clear in his own conceptual consciousness, and the sound itself is valid cognition, because it is the sign of the result. The word 'also' includes the appearances of lightning, drawings, clouds, etc., and although these cannot be obtained, they are considered valid cognition simply because they appear there. So, will the appearances in dreams and the double moon also become valid cognition? It is not contradictory to consider it valid cognition simply because it appears there, because it is established by self-awareness, and it has not denied the appearance itself there. Nor has it denied that they can realize the meaning they have obtained, just as valid cognition denies that they cannot realize the meaning, so it is also not deceptive. If it is the third case, understanding the meaning from a sound that is neither direct perception nor inference is like understanding hidden things from scripture, because only the sound is valid cognition. So, what is the reason why only sound becomes valid cognition for meaning? And it is not the reason for understanding the nature of external objects, because there is no relationship of non-arising without it between sound and meaning, which has been examined many times. So, for extremely hidden things, measuring with scripture is not the object of the two valid cognitions, but there is non-deception, doesn't only the sound of scripture become the valid cognition for the object to be measured? That is because it is inferred from the language purified by the three examinations, and not only by the power of sound, because that may be wrong. If true meaning can also be obtained from human language, and relying on experience and signs, even if the superimposition is not cut off, meaning can be obtained from the mind that is completely attached, and meaning can also be obtained from doubt, like working in the fields and going to the sea to collect treasures, isn't there also a non-deceptive situation? Occasionally meaning can be obtained from there, but

It is not that it does not deceive in all cases, because sometimes it may deceive, and it is determined by valid cognition because it does not deceive in all cases. If it does not deceive with respect to its own characteristic, then how can valid cognition exist for the Yogacara school that does not accept external objects? Even if external objects are not established, the knowledge that arises from the firm habituation and appears as the object has non-deception just like determination, so just by the appearance of accomplishing the purpose in the field of vision on the other side is undeniably established, it has done the meaning of the term, so there is no difference. Furthermore, if it is thought that the definition of "non-deceptive knowledge" does not exclude others and is too broad for decisive knowledge, then this is because it is merely taking again the object whose function of grasping has not diminished, which has already been decided by the previous valid cognition, therefore, other names such as conventional knowledge, ascertainment, or decisive knowledge are not considered valid cognition, because the function of non-deception has already been done by the previous valid cognition, and therefore, this has become knowledge that agrees with the meaning from its power, but not by its own power, just like the truth of mental discernment. Third, on debate and refutation: Only knowledge is reasonable as valid cognition. The treatises on valid cognition are not meaningless. Other definitions have the same meaning here. First, the Vaibhashikas and others who accept the sense organs as valid cognition say: It is unreasonable to establish only knowledge as valid cognition, because the sense organs also have non-deception, and similarly, the scale does not deceive the heaviness or lightness of tangible objects, and so on, and the existing and non-existing objects also have non-deception from their own side, so how can it be established that only knowledge is a non-deceptive valid cognition when there are so many other non-deceptions? Answer: It is reasonable to establish the mind as valid cognition, because the mind is the main thing in engaging with the meaning of things to be taken and abandoned, therefore only it is valid cognition. Even if the sense organs and so on have as many factors as possible for measuring things without error, without the consciousness that arises from them, they cannot completely decide to engage or disengage, and because the consciousness of the aspect of any object is different, therefore, because the understanding of the mind is different, it can completely determine that things are like this, therefore, if there is a grasped aspect or a different aspect of the mind, then there will be different understandings of this and that thing, otherwise it is impossible.
