Firstly, in the Pramana Sutra, it says, "The one who has become a valid means of cognition, wishing to benefit beings, the teacher, Sugata, protector, I prostrate to." This chapter explains the meaning of this. So, why is the Buddha, the Bhagavan, called "the one who has become a valid means of cognition"? Because the Bhagavan possesses the characteristics of a valid means of cognition that were just mentioned above, therefore the Bhagavan himself is a valid means of cognition. So, how does he possess those characteristics? Like this, if a valid means of cognition in the world is generally considered to be a mind that does not deceive in obtaining things as they have been determined, then the Bhagavan is like that valid means of cognition, because he does not deceive beings in obtaining temporary and ultimate benefits, that is, the fruits of higher realms and definite goodness. How is that? Because the Buddha, the Bhagavan, does not deceive by indicating the objects of what to take and abandon, such as teaching the Four Noble Truths, therefore he possesses the supreme characteristic of non-deception, and that is why he is called that. So, if it is just called a valid means of cognition, but not actually become a valid means of cognition,

If we look to what establishes something as newly valid, then it is impossible to know the limitless knowable. If it is said that the permanent lord, endowed with eight qualities and pervasive like space, is a valid means of knowledge and also the maker of all beings, then the valid means of knowledge itself is not permanent, because the measurement or realization of the self-characteristic of an existing thing is the valid means of knowledge, so only consciousness is the valid means of knowledge, and other things like space are not. And also, the object, that is, the knowable, is itself impermanent in its own nature, therefore, the valid means of knowledge that has it as its object is also unstable, it is momentary. Because the object is the objective condition and the consciousness that arises from it is the valid means of knowledge, it is reasonable to establish it as momentary, but if the object has no distinction, then no object will be known. If no object is known, how can it become a valid means of knowledge that does not deceive the self-characteristic of things? Therefore, it should be known that the permanent consciousness is empty of the ability to sequentially measure objects. Second, examine whether it is permanent or impermanent and refute it. Refute that it is the maker of all. First, the lord who possesses valid means of knowledge is not the maker of sentient beings, because whatever phenomena appear in this way arise sequentially, these arise from the permanent cause, the lord, which is never reasonable, because the permanent cannot have the difference of sequential action. If it is said that the permanent relies on simultaneous auxiliary conditions to sequentially produce results, then the permanent cannot be changed by auxiliary conditions, because relying on auxiliary conditions is unreasonable in all ways, and no aspect of the auxiliary conditions can benefit it, because its own nature depends on other auxiliary conditions, and if the auxiliary conditions benefit it, it will become impermanent. If it is said that the lord is impermanent, then it is not a self-arisen valid means of knowledge, because there is no reason to establish it as a valid means of knowledge. Similarly, there is no valid means of knowledge to establish that it is a single maker. Second, there is no reason to establish it, and there is a reason to harm it. First, show that the reason to establish it is not correct. Explain the reasoning in detail. First, the non-Buddhists say that the bodies of sentient beings, the world of dwellings, and the acting faculties are excellent at being able to create
