That is impossible. Why? If the nature is definite, then it is impossible to determine it again from convention. Just as once a vase is known, there cannot be a second knowing of the vase. If it exists, then because knowledge is endless, the previous knowledge cannot know it. If one newly knows from convention, then it was not previously known or determined by nature. The third is the conclusion: For any convention, if a person's intention is autonomous, that is, completely free, then what reason is there to say that this convention is definite for one meaning? Just as the arrangement of pebbles representing horses and elephants depends on a person's intention, so for any thing, no matter what convention is made, it is just as the expression of intention has done, because it is very free, so it cannot be definitively said, "This is only the convention for this." Therefore, conventions can be combined with things as one pleases, because there is nothing that cannot be combined. Therefore, it will not definitely become an expression that clearly expresses the meaning of one's own intention at the moment. Thus, convention is established by people according to their intentions, and like the establishment, from the habit of mixing name and meaning in thought, there may also arise scriptures that clearly express the meaning of what is to be expressed at the moment, and show all three aspects of what can be measured. Because those who see things beyond the senses of ordinary people express things in accordance with how conventions are known in the world, so for the view that sound is made by people, the meaning of the scriptures may also be true. But for the view that it is not made by people, not even a speck of true scripture can be established. Second, refuting the proof that everything is true because one part of the Vedas is true. It is divided into the statement of the former party's view and the refutation of them. First, because one part of the Vedas is true, other aspects, such as obtaining a noble position from fire offerings and cleansing sins from bathing, are also similar and true. Because this is also a part of the Vedas. For example, the statement in the Vedas that fire can dispel cold is true.

Because of the very equality, just as one infers that something is cooked when it is contained in a single vessel. Inferring that one side is true because the other side is true is also erroneous because it possesses remainder. This kind of seeming proof, like "understanding reason is the elephant of direction," is prevented. Secondly, the tenets of the Vedas are not necessarily true. What is the reason? Because they assert that the person (Pudgala) is permanent and is the agent of the result; they assert that results, such as sound and other things, are permanent; they assert that objects beyond the senses, such as universals, are objects of the senses; they assert that the causes of things are unequal, and even the permanent depends on conditions to produce; they assert that abiding is unequal, and even though they are self-established and do not help each other, they acknowledge that they abide by relying; they assert that destruction is unequal, and that the cause of destruction arising later than itself destroys itself. These are contradictions of inconsistent or unequal acknowledgments of what comes before and after. Furthermore, the objects of experience that are completely eliminated by the two kinds of valid cognition, direct perception and inference, that is, the faults mentioned in the context of the three examinations above, are present. And the word "path" is a collective term. Inferences that rely on their own scriptures have contradictions. For example, wanting merit from bathing, etc., those who state these things have contradictions. Those contradictions that have not been completely eliminated by valid cognition, that is, without being able to eliminate them, stating the meaning of the person, etc., and the special meaning of the scriptures is not shown to be definitely established from the path of reason. Those scriptures that lack proof and have harm, but are acknowledged to have true meaning, if analyzed, even if they are not established by valid cognition, but without analyzing, one presumes them to be true. This is like a deceitful prostitute defeating her foolish master. Although it seems like a victory in the eyes of that fool, if a wise person analyzes it, there is no reason for victory. Similarly, acknowledging the Vedas to be true, although it seems like truth in the eyes of that fool, if analyzed, it is clear that there is no reason for truth. For example, when a prostitute who has illicit relations with another man is seen and scolded by her own master, she says that there is no fault. The master says, "I saw it with my own eyes."
