This is a statement about the Earth Treatise. The second part includes: establishing concomitance through a reason that is independent of conditions, and establishing reverse pervasion through something that is harmful. The first part includes: showing the harm of destruction being caused by other causes, and refuting the argument that destruction is not caused by other causes. First point: If someone says that merely existing does not necessarily mean that things will be destroyed by their own nature, because destruction depends on other causes. Then, without depending on other causes, the thing itself is destroyed; if it depends on others, then is the destruction the same as or different from the thing being destroyed? If it is the former, then things like trees are not destroyed, because they exist without destruction. Therefore, non-existence itself is destruction, so destruction is different from the thing itself. If that is the case, then does the cause of the tree's destruction, such as fire, give rise to a destruction that has become an entity different from the tree itself? Because other things are born from that cause, the tree remains as before without being destroyed, so the tree itself will become visible. For example, just as the birth of a vase does not cause a pillar to disappear. If it is not like that, then it is too extreme, because the birth of other things causes other things to disappear. If there is no result called destruction that is born from those causes, then the cause of destruction is also meaningless. If the other destruction thing born from fire is called the destruction of this tree, then how can the tree not be destroyed? It is destruction itself. If it is allowed that the birth of other things is the destruction of other things, then please tell me, why is the tree not visible? If someone says, because the other destruction thing has taken that tree as its own and seized it, so it is not visible. Then, it is not reasonable to think that an undestroyed tree is merely invisible, because the other destruction thing cannot obscure or is unable to obscure all the properties of the tree. For example, when darkness and other things are obscured by other things, only visibility is obscured, but properties such as obstruction cannot be obscured. Moreover, there is no reason to think that this can obscure all the properties of the tree, making it invisible at any time or place. Furthermore, even if it obscures it for a while, the other destruction thing is also newly born from a cause. Therefore, destruction will eventually become destructible. When it disappears, the tree will still be visible as before.

It transforms and makes things invisible by making them its own, like a pot without darkness. If it is said that just as killing the maker of blackness means that blackness will not reappear, so it is with this tree. Killing the maker of blackness is not the same, for the maker of blackness is like the cause of destruction, fire. Here, it is not said that if the fire returns, why wouldn't the tree appear? Rather, it is argued that because the destruction caused by the fire has disappeared and is not visible, why wouldn't the tree appear? Killing the maker is not the answer, because if the blackness disappears and returns, the blackness should appear, that is certain. If, according to the second view, it is held that destruction is not something other than the tree, then the tree itself will become of the nature of destruction. Since the destruction of the tree exists simultaneously with the establishment of the tree, fire will become not its cause. If it is read as "because that does not exist," even if there is no fire, the tree exists, or fire is not the cause of the tree, or it is connected because it is not the cause. There is no other third way to contemplate whether destruction is one with the tree or other than it, and because being other is unreasonable, the tree itself is established as destruction without relying on other causes. Therefore, the fact that all things do not remain in the second moment of their own establishment is called destruction or impermanence. If it is not merely non-existence, but it is admitted that it is the nature caused by a cause, then no other reason for making the tree non-existent can be found in the three realms, and mere non-existence cannot be the fruit of anything. Therefore, saying that hammers and the like cause destruction, and holding that destruction arises from a cause, if carefully examined, the cause has done nothing, and there is nothing that has become a real thing from the destruction caused by the cause, just as making space with a hammer, and admitting that space arises from a hammer, it ends up being the same, so only the name remains. Therefore, it is impossible to establish even a particle with reason that it depends on other causes of destruction, so it is established as independent. Second, the elimination of debate. There is no harm in contradictory things becoming one. There is no harm in one and other being the same. First, even if destruction is a later arising uncaused thing, it would become permanent because it is uncaused.
