Because the Sakya school believes that the expresser must be a single sound. If one hears a cacophony, how can one simultaneously understand multiple sounds that are different from the expresser? When one person speaks, both the expresser and the sound have definite abilities, but when many people speak, the sound is definite, while the expresser is not, which is unreasonable. A debater says: It is unreasonable to say that merely sound cannot establish multiple different expressions of speech. Because sound cannot understand meaning, sounds arise sequentially and cannot gather simultaneously, and each part has no meaning of language, and the sound of each letter's tiny moment of a part cannot show any meaning. Therefore, the complete part of the expresser's sound that arises in an orderly manner is the expresser, so the expresser is different from the sound. If you think so, the faults of not being able to gather simultaneously and each part not showing meaning, etc., in any case, you do not think that merely sound is the expresser, then, for you, only the sounds that appear sequentially can make the expression of speech clear. Then, how can the expresser be without those faults? Because the expresser also relies on sound, it is impossible not to arise sequentially, but to arise simultaneously with its own essence. If you think that there are no independent sounds such as non-expresser water sounds, then that should not be called independent of the expresser, but should be called a sound that does not show meaning. For those that show meaning, there is no sound independent of the expresser. If you think that sounds without language arise sequentially and cannot show the complete meaning, then language without sound cannot show it either, just like the fragrance of a flower in the sky. Then, what is it that understands meaning by relying on language? That is not the substance of language that exists as an external entity, but because the sequence of multiple letters is conventionally agreed upon as names, words, and language, it appears from habitual conceptualization. Second, showing that the sequence is not established: refuting the sequence of letter arrangement, and refuting the sequence of causes and conditions making it clear. First, if you think that "not made by humans" is merely letters, that is not the case, because it cannot show any meaning, so the particularity of letters arranged in sequence is language, which is not made by humans but arises. Then, is the so-called sequence a different target from the letters?

Because there is no location, it does not exist as a substance by its own nature, because order is conceptually imposed on letters. The assertion that those letters have an order established in their own nature is also not established. If it were, it would have to be impossible to express or establish it in any other way than the order shown in the Vedas. However, like "Agni," one can freely change it to "Gani" by putting "ga" first, and so on. Therefore, being able to change such an order is a sign that contradicts the establishment of an order of self-nature in letters. If you also admit that the "A" of the three realms is one, the "ka" is one, and so on, then what is their order of precedence? It is impossible to know that there is an order. Furthermore, the language of the Vedas is said to be pervasive in all directions and constant at all times. The order of place, like a row of assemblies, saying "this direction is this," and the order of time, like the difference between the prior and posterior arising, like soil and sprouts, does not exist on it. Therefore, the so-called order of letters is that they arise sequentially, and if it is established in that way by its own nature, then even impermanent things like soil and sprouts cannot be changed in their order by anyone, let alone permanent sounds. Therefore, saying that language is permanent and has an order is very unreasonable. If, suspecting that fault, one thinks that the statement is impermanent and is not of a pervasive nature, then that fault is: if impermanent, then it is produced by effort. And, if those are not pervasive. And so on, because it has been said before, it cannot be established unless it is made by a person. Secondly, after failing to establish that the very nature of the letters has language with an order, if one says that the clarity that appears when gradually understanding the letters is the order, then, like this, the order in which the letters appear clearly in the mind is also not language, because the idea that permanent language has a new appearance has already been refuted by reason. Furthermore, there is a reason to establish that sound is newly produced without prior existence, and there is a rational obstacle to the idea that it exists previously and appears. The first of these two is that the language is established by the action of the tongue, gums, and so on, which are the causes, and therefore it will become the result produced by them. That is reasonable, because it is clear.
